Patriot Act extension nears passage
November 17, 2005
Congress Nears Deal to Renew Anti terror Law
By ERIC LICHTBLAU
WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 - Congressional negotiators neared a final agreement Wednesday night on legislation that will extend and keep largely intact the sweeping antiterrorism powers granted to the federal government after the Sept. 11 attacks under the law known as the USA Patriot Act.

After months of vitriolic debate, the tentative agreement represents a significant and somewhat surprising victory for the Bush administration in maintaining the government's expanded powers to investigate, monitor and track terror suspects.

Remember the scene in F/911 when Moore is in the passenger seat of the ice cream truck reading the patriot act over the loudspeaker to help the overworked congressmen? At the time, it hardly mattered if the legislators read the act or not,the timing and even the name of the proposal made it political suicide for any to oppose it lest they be labeled "soft on terrorism".

Now, with Bush's ratings in the tank and the lies and deceptions coming to light, the time is right to smack this travesty down.

Why are our leaders still going along with giving away the very thing they claim we are fighting for-freedom.

2. The "Grey Lady" has totally lost it...where's their style book?
"USA PATRIOT" is an acronym, and should correctly be set in uppercase.

The correct usage for this reprehensible act is as follows:

3. You can still action on this today
Calls to Congress Needed TODAY: White House Hijacks Patriot Reform

Eager for a public success, the Bush Administration has strong-armed lawmakers into re-drafting a final Patriot Act bill that actually makes the original law even worse. The new proposals reverse months of bipartisan negotiations and ignore the growing calls for reform from across the political spectrum.

A final vote is expected in the House and Senate THIS WEEK, so we need you to call your Members of Congress as soon as you can. Take action now and and tell them to vote NO on the Patriot Act reauthorization bill.

Your call to Congress is urgently needed. Americans of every political stripe want Patriot Act reform and we need to let Congress know that people across the country are watching this vote.

4. Maybe they should honor the "Grey Lady's" DNR.
Let her drift off to her reward.
