Anyone a Member of DSA?
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 03:18 PM by BayCityProgressive
DSA ( Democratic Socialists of America) is an organization that works within other political parties, mainly the Democrats and has I believe three members in the US congress. 2 Democrats and independant Bernie Sanders. Barbarah Earlreich (sp?) author of Nickle and Dimed is a member. The group says on its website it works with the Progressive Caucus in congress and is the largest socialist org. in the USA. Just wondering if anyone here is a member?

1. No, but I'm tempted -- very tempted.

Thanks to some discussions here on DU.

Vitruvius

P.S: The Ehrenreich book is absolutely top-notch. And Michael Harrington ("The Other America") was also a member; the Harrington book helped create the climate for LBJ's War on Poverty.

They're a very interesting group -- and well worth keeping up with -- at the very least.

4. Is that a group that emerged from the August 7th folks?
(On August 7, 1979, NAM voted to become part of DSA.)

5. Nope
Solidarity was created with a merger of three groups: Hal Draper's Independent Socialist Clubs, Workers Power, and Socialist Unity. Since then, the Fourth Internationalist Tendency and Activists for Independent Socialist Politics.

3. No, but in 1979 I quite the New American Movement
when it merged into DSA. I saw it as an activist movement burying itself in a membership-card outfit.
