I hope Murtha and Dems push the point: Focus on READYING Iraq
Seems that Duncan (and the Repub argument in general is keep troops there until Iraq troops are ready.

Yet what Murtha is saying is, work on moving them toward that ready point.

Repubs seem determined to misunderstand the intent of the Dem, and majority, opinion, which is that the time has come to change the present trajectory.

Murtha did a great hjob of reminding us of all the assurances from Bush at the run up. I remember it myself, the promises of a short battle, costs paid for by Iraqi oil, the expectation of a large coalition. The reality is, none of that has materialized.

The Republican insistance on phrasing Murtha's ideas as a call to "cut and run" is stubborn refusal to listen.

I hope Democrats join in a united voice to hammer over and over and over again, the idea is to focus on preparations to leave.

1. It is not up to the United States to prepare the Iraqis. The Iraqis are
doing a magnificent job of defending themselves against a superior invading military, that is why Murtha is saying we should leave now.

2. i heard him say leave and pull back to other areas
could mean a smaller regular army force stationed close in case they are needed -for what that is the question that remains unanswerable...

3. to me it sounded like Murtha meant, start now to hand over their country
back, with the goal of everything being in place by next year. Compared with how I heard Duncan to mean, stay there without any goal line, just stay until Military judge them to be ready.

(Duncan really denied alot of facts too, like the fact that there basically are NO Iraqi battalions, let alone enough people prepared. to me, if the concern is, we can'
t leave until enough troops are ready, then start an active plan to make them ready. Murtha's point was accurate, that as long as we continue as we are, there is no incentive for Iraq to believe that we want to leave and let them take over)
