This is NOT one of those times. Watch this video.
He is wasted. Sloshed. In his cups. Three sheets to the wind and feeling no pain.

Bush: War critics 'playing politics'
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004316/

At 1:30 in, David Gregory explains that Bush has been asked if he thinks it's "unpatriotic to disagree with the war".

Then Bush starts speaking. Gibberish. I listened several times and still can't tell what he said.

It's *something* like "patriodisacrivatslithy toves dishergee itherpresit ....", but not *quite*.

Gregory is brilliant, btw, giving Murtha's bombshell the kind deference I recall being given to Walter Cronkite's position when he returned from Viet Nam.

1. If a media person is present with Dubya and can smell booze on his breath
and if he's speaking gibberish, she or he might bring this to the attention of the public. There could be a serious question of relieving him of his office because he is chronically incapacitated.

Unfortunately, he can't be relieved of his office for simple lack of capacity.

3. Nah, Junior probably drinks vodka
Vodka is the true alcoholics drink...in a glass, it looks exactly like water and you can't smell vodka on the breath.

Junior's definately a SERIOUSLY heavy alcoholic...his entire face tells the tale of it...and that's without his slurred speech.

4. I saw that clip earlier, both on the NBC Nightly News and on
Countdown. He is definitely drunk as a skunk. Slurring words like crazy. Either drunk or drugged. I don't know why the media can't get this topic to the forefront. Maybe they are the best way they can by not editing these videos anymore.

5. Thanks so much for linking this video. I saw this on the Nightly News and
couldn't believe how inarticulate he was. I also like the brief cutaway to gwb and his goofy laugh toward the end of the report.

Nicely done, all and all. MKJ

6. Sounds like he's on some
heavy duty drug. Illegal? Wondered about the boozy breath. Alcohol breath is hard to conceal. Speaking in tongues?

7. He does appear to be drunk...
I think what he is attempting to say is: "Patriotic is actually to disagree with the President." But the words seem badly slurred, and if that is the right 'translation' of his words, the sentence doesn't really make sense anyway.

Possibly what he might have meant was: "Patriotism sometimes involves disagreeing with the President."

8. I listened to it twice and I thought mayyybe he said,
"ishpatrioticasheckta dishagree wifda Presnit!"

I will never understand why everyone pretends that this is okay. Can you imagine if Bill Clinton was speaking this way on TV? There would have been mandatory pee tests at the very least, given the rethug preoccupation with the Clenis.

My husband works on 5th avenue right next to St. Patrick's Cathedral. After 9/11, there were so many funerals happening daily at St. Patrick's that he was on the verge of just losing it. About a week later, he noticed lots of chaos right outside his store. It was Bill Clinton walking down the street giving comfort to the people of New York. My guy said that people were literally hanging out the windows of high-rises calling for Bill, looking for just a wave from him. He told me later that night that it took every thing he could muster not to break out and start crying right there at work, because he now knew that everything was going to be alright because he saw Bill. Just seeing him gave him comfort.

Do you think Bush will ever have that effect on people?

10. Bush will never compare.
He never stood a chance of comparing.

That's a great story. Sigh.

13. Your "Sigh" just put a lump in my throat.
On top of him sharing that experience, later that night we watched Dolly Parton on Austin City Limits and freekin' balled our eyes out! THE most cathartic day of my life.

11. Absolutely.
It is startling to compare his speech patterns from five or six years ago to how he is sounding now. This particular video snip is definitely a case in point. The guy's losing it.

don't have a problem with that. Not sure what the important fillers were.

Or at the very least a link to the audio?

On edit: I see others are asking also.
