I thought Turkey was sending troops to Iraq?
I thought they decided to send them a couple of weeks ago. Must take a long time to get them there or something? Wonder what the hold up is? Should be interesting if they ever do enter into Iraq.

1. I Think...
....that the Turkish government is waiting for that $8.5 billion dollar loan guarantee to pass through Congress. As soon as they know that the money is in the bank, they'll be rolling right into Baghdad.

Say didn't the Ottoman Empire have some of the best mercenary soldiers
in history?

4. Not really mercenaries, but a conscripted army of elites
The Jannissaries (sp?) were comprised of young men who were conscripted at a very young age (not quite toddlers, but close), and who were raised inside the barracks, without access to their families. These children came primarily from non-citizen families, as I understand it, or from familes that had been in areas absorbed by the Osmanli Turks. Their entire focus was the protection/expansion of the empire, especially under Suleiman the Magnificent. They were probably comparable to the ancient Spartan warriors in their persepctive.

2. Yes, the bush regime is deploying its Turk troops to liquidate the Kurds

This will be a great help in that it will enable US troops to concentrate their efforts on key population reduction operations in the rest of Iraq.

3. Yes, I see
that way the Turks can kill the Kurds before the evil Iraqis get a chance to kill them.

God Bless America
