I can't stand it anymore! AAR is messing with MS and I just had to put up
with a seemingly endless harrange about Springer's childhood in Kew Gardens Queens, and his identity crisis and the Cincinnati Bengals! The morning radio has become so important to me as I go to and begin work and I can't stand listening to this drivel while mourning the coming loss of the Mark/Marcs. Danny Goldberg is a schmuck!

1. I'm afraid this is going to backfire on Danny
and cost AAR and US!

19. In Boston, we get Ed and Stephanie Miller
along with the other AAR shows.....

I like them both.

Can't stand Springer, but without my Marc and Mark on MS I'm going to be an unhappy commuter!

3. I can't listen to Jerry Springer...
he is too trivial for my taste. Our local affiliate asked me if my company would advertise on AAR in the ams. I turned them down as I don't want the people who can stand Jerry buying our stuff. How's that for petty?

6. Yeah, way to go!!
That's what we should do, eat our own. Because their conservative companies treat liberals so well, perhaps.:sarcasm:

7. You listen to Jerry if you think he's so right for AAR.
Frankly, I don't think we need someone talking nationally about Cincinnati.

5. Then. Don't. Listen.
Why make the effort to trash him? Every personality out there caters to a demographic. Do you think that a 50ish couple in New York with fairly conservative values is going to listen to Malloy? (I love Malloy, btw). No. Jerry caters to a demographic AND a personality type. Just like any radio personality. That's why there's so many different kinds. Just stop with the trashing of our own. How hard is that to do?

8. So, I don't listen to Jerry
I go to www.airamericaplace.com archives and listen to someone I like, and with the added bonus of no commercials!
How much longer will Mark and Mark be on?

10. Right now Stephanie Miller is on as well
You can stream her at www.RadioPower.org. She's a new find for me and she is hilarious. Perfect AM talk for me. I prefer her to Springer for sure.

11. Just because he says he's a democrat doesn't make him "my own". You say
you like Malloy. Well so do I and one of the things I like about him is that, unlike most democrats I'm hearing these days, he's willing to call a democratic scum bag a scum bag! His honesty and integrity and willingness to take on the condemnation of people who call in and urge him to make nicey-nice to everyone who says they're willing to consider voting for a democrat is a pleasure to hear.

One reason I vote for democrats is that they are willing to confront their own when they behave like corrupt thugs--to me that contributes to making it the real party with moral values. If I believe that a democrat is voting like a repuke--I'm gonna say it. If I believe the corporate media is over represented and constantly bends over to take it from the corporate placed administration, and we don't need a radio station that sells itself as the "Progressive voice" while doing the same and kissing up to the koolaid drinking folks who are contented to get their information from Larry King Live, then I'll say it. That's not gonna stop inspite of people who assume that they can tell me what to say and what not to say! If people presume to speak of themselves as democrats and liberals and progressives and act like repuke--then I resent it and will call them out even if you call it trashing.

13. It's not nearly that simple in my opinion. How far are you willing to sell
out you basic values before you're essentially doing a goose-step to a different set of thugs? If the dem party doesn't stand for anything, then how do you win over votes? Whether we're talking about 15 dem senators voting for more tax breaks for the rich or a DJ making nice to people who would like to have a beer with Bush, at what point do you no longer have an alternative movement to follow?

20. OMG! LOL! No one but you said anything about your brown shirts.
I was referring to the actions and performance of those who have access to the media and positions of power and claim to represent the democratic party. I expressing my discomfort at being so represented and was extrapolating and expressing concern about what a party becomes when anyone expressing criticism of those actions and that performance gets accused of "trashing their own".

16. Talismom, you raise some interesting points.
It's impossible to support certain politicians regardless of party affiliation when they continue to approve of legislation that harm the elderly, poor and most neglected in this country. They are not representing us, I'm not willing to settle for the lesser of 2 evils, we need new progressives to speak out and reclaim the FDR policies on protecting the vulnerable, not the corporations.

17. Hating Jerry Springer is not a basic value.
It's not nearly that simple in my opinion. How far are you willing to sell out you basic values before you're essentially doing a goose-step to a different set of thugs?

Funny you should mention goose stepping considering that you are the one arguing for ideological conformity.

How can you equate tolerating radio voices you dont fully agree with and goosestepping to thugs?

If the dem party doesn't stand for anything, then how do you win over votes? Whether we're talking about 15 dem senators voting for more tax breaks for the rich or a DJ making nice to people who would like to have a beer with Bush, at what point do you no longer have an alternative movement to follow?

Are you kidding me? So now being nice to people who dont agree with you is some kind of crime against the progressive movement?

To answer your question, shunning all people who disagree with you and demanding ideological purity is a good way to either kill a movement or turn a movement into something horrible.

9. I think Jerry...
... has a lot better chance of connecting with the listeners we need to reach than say Randi does.

I love Randi and Mike, but put yourself in the place of the swing people we are trying to convert. Jerry is perfect IMHO.

14. Jerry is dull as dishwater!
I find his show totally unlistenable-- he is boring, bland, middle-of-the-road, not funny or stimulating.

I'm not too crazy about Franken either, but Jerry is the worst.

22. They lost me locally in that time slot when they brought in Springer.
I can't listen to that show, it is unbearable. From time to time I check in to see if it is changing, but it looks to be getting worse.

Maybe it is just me, but is seems like it is turning into a daytime TV talk show with less and less politics. I don't understand these tangential conversations he gets into and these boring stories he tells.

Sorry to all you Jerry Springer fans here in DU, but it's how I feel.

Check out Charles Goyette that is on AAR locally in Arizona if you want an alternative. I have said for a while that Goyette should replace Springer on the AAR network nationally.

24. You need someone who will WAKE YOU UP in a morning show!
Usually I don't listen to AAR in the morning, just for that reason. I'm on the West Coast here, so Morning Sedition isn't an option. It's Springer at 6 and Franken at 9. Dull and Duller, in other words.

I know Mike Malloy prefers the evening shift. I wonder if Randi would consider doing a morning show?

Who the Hell picked Danny Goldberg to run this network anyway? He's a record industry guy, and the record industry is in the middle of it's shittiest decade ever.

NOT because of filesharing, but because they put out boring, predictable crap. And that seems to be what Danny wants to do with OUR radio network as well. We have to save AAR. Ed Schultz (Dean bashing DLC worshipper) is no alternative, that's for damn sure.

26. I totally agree with you and have been glad to have morning sedition
to wake up with. If they turn it into another milk-toast Springer like show, I'm gonna have to turn my dial for good in the morning to radio Pacifica and send them a big fat donation--probably should do the latter anyway 'cause Democracy Now and Counterspin are so wonderful! I don't think Randi will move her hours for anything, Hartman would have been wonderful in Springers time or a Rachael Maddow show would be fine to me. If it were up to me, I'd listen to Malloy all day!
