The Rant
yes some will scream but this is Capitol Hill Blue, well folks I have written words to this effect, and so have many of you, so check your scorn at the door... and if you don't like CHB, DON'T READ IT... (Oh and a note for those who are going this is bad reporting, the RANT is an OpEd)
..............

The Bush administration betrayed the Constitution of the United States, creating a police state mentality that openly violates the rights that hallowed document are supposed to protect, trampling our freedoms with an over hyped “war on terrorism” that – to date – has only created more enemies of this country.

..................

In five years, Bush has managed strip away the foundations that built this nation – creating an American Gestapo called the Department of Homeland Security, trampling the Constitution with the USA Patriot Act and dividing the nation with fear tactics, lies and illegal acts.

His administration has built the greatest propaganda machine since Adolph Hitler, seeking to control what Americans read, see and hear – producing fake news reports through federal agencies, paying so-called journalists to produce pro-Bush stories, threatening broadcast entities with record fines and packing Public Radio with right-wing zealots.

His propaganda machine rolled over the press, public and Congress with Blitzkrieg efficiency in the buildup to the Iraq invasion, bombarding them with lies, innuendos and false intelligence.

Now, with the truth emerging, he attacks the truth with claims that those who question him are unpatriotic and un-American. His White House compiles electronic dossiers on more than 10,000 “enemies of the state,” because they have the audacity to oppose his autocratic ravings. His political advisors pray for a new terrorist attack to justify the paranoia his actions create.

3. I think the comparison with Dept of HS is dead-on.
It's a 21st Century Gestapo, plain and simple. And it will be difficult to eradicate.

4. And remember who was the push behind the creation of DHS
ole Joementum, himself. Chimpie, at first, was clueless about it.
What the Democratic Party needs is more DLCers!

then we will need to work on how to get rid of DHS or modify it to the point that it does what in theory was suposed to do... coordination, but it cannot do that well either

7. I can only support getting rid of it altogether.
It's a fungus that will pervade any agency it touches. AND it hasn't accomplished a thing! I mean, talk about ROI.

12. I always equated it more with KGB than Gestapo.
Largely because of its border control duties.

9. Remember back when being a communist
was referred to as engaging in unAmerican activites? (It was the premise that Joe McCarthy launched his witch hunts.) It was because of the cold war between the western powers, including us, and the Soviet Union. The western powers were outraged with the Soviet Union's violation of human rights, torture in the gulag prison camps and persecution of anyone who practiced religion or disagreed with their ideology, as well as their swallowing up many countries in eastern Europe by invasion.

Now, it seems we have a crew of unAmericans in power, who are perpetrating unAmerican activities, by invading other countries, torturing prisoners of war, ignoring for the most part the needs of victims of natural catastrophes and robbing our treasury blind, while selling us out to other foreign powers.

UnAmerican activities back in the fifties mean that you were in violation of the Constitution and a traitor to your country. So why can't our elected representatives see it is their duty to remove these people from power to save our democracy. All the tools they need are set out in our Constitution.

11. I think we at the grass roots level have been trying, including
Cindy Sheehan who is trying civil disobedience. But it is our elected leaders that need to listen to the people in the street and start proceedings. I think it's atrocious how they have ignored the will of the people from the very beginning. Remember the huge protests that happened before the Iraq invasion worldwide? They were completely ignored. I say we need to do a big House cleaning in the 2006 elections and get ourselves some senators and congressmen who actually pay attention to the will of the people.

13. I agree, we need house cleaning
that said politicos RARELY lead, they usually follow and in a governmetn of the people, by the people, you know the rest, it is actually to a point fitting, but raely in US History have politicos led when it comes to social policy... and in some respects this is social policy, for at the root is challenging their view of empire
