The nets all break into their daytime programming for breaking news.
Fitz steps up to the mic and announces:
Today a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia handed up indictments against the following people for the following offenses:
Richard Cheney, Vice President of the United States: one count of making false statements, one count of conspiracy to violate the Espionage Act of 1917.
Stephen Hadley, National Security Advisor: one count of perjury, one count of obstruction, one count of violating the 1917 Espionage Act, and one count of conspiracy to violate the Espionage Act.
Karl Rove, Deputy White House Chief of Staff: one count of perjury, one count of obstruction, one count of violating the 1917 Espionage Act, and one count of conspiracy to violate the Espionage Act.
Lewis Libby, former Vice Presidential Chief of Staff: one count of violating the 1917 Espionage Act, and one count of conspiracy to violate the Espionage Act.
Fitz then goes on to explain that Cheney started the process of revealing agent Wilson's identity, knowing both her status and what she did, by speaking to Libby, Rove, and Hadley with the intention that they would reveal the information to members of the news media. Though Hadley, Libby, and Rove had clearence to receive such information, the members of the news media they spoke to did not. Hadley and Rove lied to the grand jury, saying they heard the information from members of the news media, while Cheney told investigators -- not under oath -- that he never discussed agent Wilson with anybody, which other evidence shows is not true.
And then there's a two-hour question-and-answer session with a stunned press corps.
Can't you feel it?
