Don't let anyone tell you the troops don't like to here calls for brining
them home. I know from experience. The best way to survive a war is to get the hell out of it.
All troops want the war to end and to be sent home. So do their families. What hurts morale is to know that you are stuck there because there is a stalemate.
You show me a soldier or marine that wants to stay and fight in a war and I'll show you a mentally ill person.
Troops don't believe in some glory idea such as bringing freedom to some country when they shoot to kill. They are thinking kill or be killed. Nothing else enters the mind. To survive their time and come home is what they all want.
If anyone chooses not to believe it go to Norfolk or San Diego the day a Carrier Battle Group returns from a six month deployment. Our kids do their jobs and work to achieve mission, but the ones in Iraq don't even know what the mission is. They are padding their military resumes and getting a row or two of ribbons but home is where their hearts are. Except for the handful of mentally ill ones you refer to.
