You heathen bastards.....
The Presidential Prayer Team knows where god stands on this whole Iraq thing.
He posted it in freepland...
- - -
Father, we especially bring before You the action in the U.S. House that is ongoing as this prayer is being prayed. It is so easy for us to fret because of the evil that men do. It is so easy for us to lose sight of Your Sovereignty and guidance, and believe that evil men will succeed in their ways, and carry out their wicked schemes. We have seen much evil in the past weeks with regard to our War against Terror in Iraq. We have felt pain that the action of the Democrats, in their hatred for President Bush, are harming our precious troops who are in harm's way. Lord, we pray that You will cut these men off, and silence their wicked schemes. We pray that our troops would be comforted; that they would know that those who would cut and run, and destroy their mission and everything they have accomplished, do not speak for the majority of Americans. We pray that the American people might see through the scheming and plotting to understand that what has happened in Iraq is nothing short of miraculous.

1. Someone needs to inform that person who wrote the prayer
that God doesn't give a G'damn about politics.

6. Nope
I once heard this great sermon at my grandmother's church from a preacher I've grown up listening to who I really enjoy hearing. He basically was talking about life and death and how God is above time and space and lands and all that. These people don't know God if they think He really cares about politics.

2. oh please
:puke:

Please don't ask for "comfort" for the troops. The kind of comfort you are asking for isn't the kind of comfort the troops I know and live next door to and am married to want. They want the comfort of knowing they won't be sent to Iraq AGAIN.

I guess death and destruction and torture and pain are all "miraculous".

4. Yeah, the only real comfort is your own damn bed in your own damn house!
Not a barracks room behind the wire (if you are lucky!).

3. Somehow I don't think the Almighty is either Republican or Democrat
an Independant, maybe.

He's also a bit more into the poor and love and such than these folks seem to be.

8. From Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address:
"Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces, but let us judge not, that we be not judged. The prayers of both could not be answered. That of neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has His own purposes. "Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh."

from Lincoln's Second Inaugural, March 4, 1865

It takes a hell of a lot of arrogance to think that God is actually going to reward these sorts of "prayers" from these modern day "Republicans".

Lincoln was the real deal and he had a hell of a lot more humility and honesty and found it repulsive to ask God for help in killing his fellow human beings.

This kind of "praying" is just the mark of arrogant fools who think they are morally superior to everyone else and think they can lord their "superiority" over the rest of us by their obnoxious "prayers".

These people claim to be Christians but they are doing exactly the opposite of what Christ told his followers to do. They need to go back and reread Matthew 6:1-6:8.

Matthew 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

9. Mark Twain would have had a good laugh over that prayer.
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 01:21 AM by gordianot
On second thought it would probably have made him ill.
This is really spooky compared to Twain's prayer. Twain's daughter would not allow this to be printed, it was finally printed long after his death.

Mark Twains War Prayer.

It was a time of great and exalting excitement. The country was up in arms, the war was on, in every breast burned the holy fire of patriotism; the drums were beating, the bands playing, the toy pistols popping, the bunched firecrackers hissing and sputtering; on every hand and far down the receding and fading spreads of roofs and balconies a fluttering wilderness of flags flashed in the sun; daily the young volunteers marched down the wide avenue gay and fine in their new uniforms, the proud fathers and mothers and sisters and sweethearts cheering them with voices choked with happy emotion as they swung by; nightly the packed mass meetings listened, panting, to patriot oratory which stirred the deepest deeps of their hearts and which they interrupted at briefest intervals with cyclones of applause, the tears running down their cheeks the while; in the churches the pastors preached devotion to flag and country and invoked the God of Battles, beseeching His aid in our good cause in outpouring of fervid eloquence which moved every listener.

It was indeed a glad and gracious time, and the half dozen rash spirits that ventured to disapprove of the war and cast a doubt upon its righteousness straightway got such a stern and angry warning that for their personal safety's sake they quickly shrank out of sight and offended no more in that way.

10. the unspoken part of the prayer, according to Twain
....

...Upon the listening spirit of God the Father fell also the unspoken part of the prayer. He commandeth me to put it into words. Listen!

"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle-be Thou near them! With them, in spirit, we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it-for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

11. Everything you ask from God you are asking the opposite for the enemy.
Human hypocrisy at its finest. Sam was a cynic on the human condition. Go ahead and have your war just keep God and Prayer out of it. Or if you must pray don't do it in public

15. The sad thing is that the Freeps would repeat that prayer......
...without a shred of irony. They wouldn't fucking get what Twain meant at all.

12. Given their flair for the dramatic and their tendency to go over the top
most Conservative appeals, when they try to stir up feelings of wholesome values, compassion, and morality, end up just sounding phony, insincere, and condescending.

That has always cracked me up.

They invest so much time, effort, and language into overselling their lies that they actually start becoming a satire of themselves.

16. At This Moment I am counter-praying........
Dear and merciful Lord

Hear this prayer for peace and charity. We pray that every heart that is turned towards violence and hatred is softened with your words. Let the peace makers be blessed. Let those who feel the pain of others be uplifted. Let those who aid their brothers in need be counted among the angels. Let all who you shelter in your love find a way to lessen the hurt in this world.

Assist us in our daily efforts to fulfill your commands for faith, hope and charity.

Amen.
