Daily Kos credited for forcing Pentagon admission of illegal weapons use in Fallujah

NPR's On the Media opened Friday night with an examination of the disturbing series of conflicting statements by the U.S. gov't in regards to the illegal use of weapons in last year's Fallujah battle. State Dept. denied the use of white phosphorous in the days following the broadcast of a documentary on the battle by RAI in Italy and across European satellite TV. On Monday, the Pentagon admitted to using it only to "illuminate enemy positions at night." But by Tuesday, they were brought to admit that they used it on "enemy combatants."

From On the Media:

Why these progressive admissions? Probably because a website, called the Daily Kos got hold of the March edition of the Army's official "Field Artillery" magazine which detailed the use of the weapon in Fallujah. Close reading. Access journalists leave THAT to the amateurs.

2. That's what the news media used to do
before they started carrying water for the crooks in the white house.

shouldn't credit go to the Italian investigative journalistfrom the La Republica who reported the story a year ago, who I think may have highlighted the nowthatsfuckedup story too?

4. I realize I'm painting with a broad brush
here, I'm just pointing out that the US news media has been shall we say, less than zealous in their pursuit of stories critical of the white house.

5. why not both? Did La Republica read the field manual and report
on it as DailyKos did?

Sounds to me like both deserve kudos.

I am increasingly seeing evidence that the blogosphere is in the process of replacing the mainstream media. Nature does abhor a vacuum, after all.
