A Hajji in most Arab cultures is someone who has gone on Hajj in some others it's a term of respect to older people like Sir or Ma'am.

I was telling a 19 year-old co-worker about the girlfriend I had in high-school.

She was from the Tropical Island of Goa off the coast of India. She was gorgeous. She was 5'3", 110 lbs., had creamy mocha skin and the heart-shaped face of a model. Her lips were full and warm, her smile bright, and her hair was thick, long, and as black as the faintly blue midnight sky you see between the stars on a clear night. Her eyes were such a beautiful and dark brown one could become lost from looking into them. She had a wonderful laugh, she was bright, charming, intelligent and kind. She even taught me a little Tamil and some Hindi which I have long since forgotten.

So I showed the young man her picture which I still had in my wallet.

He said, "Oh... she's a sand-nigger."

It was the first time I ever hit someone out of scheer anger. I think I pinned his foot and punched him square in the sternum (It's not something you plan), he fell hard on his ass.

"What was that for?!"

"Look Pete,", I said, "you are a really nice kid, but if you ever say shit like that again, I'll break your nose."

His mother, the day cook, treated me very badly after that.

That's how I came to understand where he got it from.

I'm Indian-American, and have heard these ignorant racist terms and more. There are some desert areas, but most of India is tropical and green. "Sand nigger" doesn't work because of a lack of sand and negroes. Indians tend to be milk chocolate, but some have very light skin. My mother's family looks almost white.

I've always had it in my head that it was an island, and no one ever corrected me.

So we get into the debate and they go on and on about how Muslim women are oppressed and how they came to liberate us all while using words like "raghead". I'd have to inform them that I am a woman. I would then ask them if it was oppressive to refer to me as a "raghead". After that they would go on about how "in my country" (I'm American born and raised)I wouldn't be allowed to speak. It's as if now they are telling me I should shut up because they can't win the debate.

That's their precise mentality. They don't give a shit about what happens to the Iraqi people; only the image of their fuhrer.
