I am not trying to defend Northwest Airlines
but yesterday on Lou Dobbs, there was a Congresswoman who was fuming that NWA was buying Airbus instead of Boeing aircraft.

Two can play the game, of course, Boeing is selling to many foreign countries. How would that Congresswoman (I do not remember her name) react if France and the U.K. for start, would demand that Air France and British Airways purchase Airbus only? That all the EU members purchase Airbus only?

1. Its called hypocrisy.
Don't feel bad about defending NWA's business decision. You are correct in what you said, and I appreciate you saying it.

7. Layoff and cutting salaries of mechanics, pilots, flight attendants
I really don't understand the economy of the situation. Last March flew NWA to Amsterdam - full plan, though a very old DC-10. And I was told that NWA had, perhaps still has, three flights a day each from MSP, Detroit and Memphis to Amsterdam and all are full.

Flew ATA MSP to Chicago last April - was pathetically empty, same in August.

And last month we took NWA to Chicago since we had coupons - for spending 30 hours in AMS for some miserable 6" of snow - and we had hard time getting seats to either O'Hare or Midway, while ATA canceled its MSP - Chicago route.

Go figure.

4. Saw that -- and Dobbs is full o'crap on this one.
NWA has been buying Airbus A330s, but has also ordered (and has financed, pre-bankruptcy) a bunch of Boeing 787s for delivery in 2008. Airlines buy the airplanes that best suit their specific needs and for which the price is right. I'm all in favor of buying American whenever possible, but Dobbs is a good capitalist and he should understand that kind of business decision.

flying requirements for the routes they want to use it on.

But, it is very difficult to support Northwest Airlines in anything they do these days - it is all anti-employee, anti-union, anti-emplyment, and anti-customer. They've done EVERYTHING wrong lately - crushing unions, exporting jobs, dumping pensions, nickle and diming everyone. But, their top office brass are WEALTHY! And, of course, their top office brass will help the economy in other ways -right? Congratulations to you if you sell them a new car or they eat at the restaurant you work at and leave a nice tip.
