Are we there yet?
Every child has asked that question and every parent has been annoyed by it. But it is a legitimate question. We have been the children in the backseat of the car supposedly headed to a more moral America. Since the people driving make a huge deal about being Christians, it seems reasonable to use Jesus as our roadmap. I, for one, want to know if we are there yet.

While decreasing taxes on the non working rich (income from dividends and investments) to unprecedently low levels we have cut funds spent on student loans, utility assistance, Medicaid, finding deadbeat dads, and food stamps. Would the Jesus who told us we would be judged by how we treated the least of us have done this?

We are rapidly approaching 2500 deaths and 20000 wounded in a war we started. We haven't a clue how many Iraquis we killed in this same war. Would the Jesus who gave the Sermon on the Mount have done this?

Abortions might still be declining (the data is incomplete) but even if they are they are going down at a much lesser rate than they did during the Clinton years. This is in the face of the numbers of child bearing women declining. Would Jesus like more abortions?

Gay marriages have gone up exponentially. We had 0 gay marriages before Bush's Presidency. Now we have had literally thousands. I happen to think Jesus would at worst not really care. He hasn't said anything about it. But somehow I think those who are driving have a much different opinion. For all of their talk, they haven't tried all that hard to ban gay marriage.

Divorce well that just keeps increasing without bound. We see no effort to end divorce by this crowd. Instead we see them divorcing like mad. Steven Latourette divorced (informed his wife on the phone), John McCain divorced, Elizabeth Dole homewrecker, Newt Ginrich divorced twice, Rush Limbaugh divorced twice, and I could go on for pages. What the Jesus who rebuked divorcees behave this way?

Somehow I think we are going to be spending a very long time in the back of that car.

2. Oh no we won't
-Insert timely Ghandi quote here that applies (because I can't remember it correctly)-....point being; we are growing up; all of us. Teenaged years in the house of America. Rebelling against the conservative parents; trading in the old way for the new. It really isn't all that unexpected; it is just that the parents are being VERY VERY stubborn; ultimately to their own detriment.Eventually they will have to realize that they have to trust that they raised children with good values;and let us loose into the world.
They need to LET GO. We are just like any other kids---tell us what we can't do; and we will do it just to spite you; and to prove that we can. The world has changed; things don't work like that anymore.
