those polls like that. Not long ago the ones supporting the president's policies ran about 35%. Now they are running around 20% or less.

That a leader cannot be questioned or criticized during war? Is this a commonly held historical belief in America?

31. Not exactly. It's OK to criticize Democratic presidents,
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 01:44 PM by ocelot
just not Republican ones. :sarcasm:

As we recall, the Republicans in Congress were all over Clinton about the military action in the Balkans. Wag the dog, no war for Monica, we shouldn't be involved in nation-building, blah, blah, blah. In fact, they thought it was just fine to start impeachment proceedings against him while US troops were fighting in the Balkans. Conveniently, they have forgotten all of this.

They have also forgotten what Republican president Theodore Roosevelt once said: "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

35. Yes, I realize all that and I love the quote from TR
It's just that I hear that phrase all the time in Amercan media and not just from RWers, either.

Could it be that they've "created" this myth and somehow it's become "accepted wisdom"?

That's gotta be stopped.

Hey, isn't it nice to know that we don't really *have* to DU polls anymore? The citizenry is with DU. That's a nice fact, too.

Still, keep putting the polls up. It's so-o-o-o-o much fun participating in an aspect of on-line Democracy. ;-)
