"Stranger, go tell the Spartans "

"Stranger, go tell the Spartans that we lie here in obedience to their laws."

At Thermopylae a king and three hundred of his soldiers set the standard for battled to the death against overwhelming odds. Today over their battle and burial ground is the “Go tell the Spartans” inscription.

They wanted those at home to know that in compliance with the law they had shown fidelity. How sad it is that those Americans that fall in Iraq do so without the political body even discussing the law.

What law are they fighting under? To suppress a power that would use WMD’s? Are they dying for an Iraqi representative government? Or, is it something else? Why does the Republican Congress fight so hard against discussions about the war?

All that we can say to those warriors who fall upon foreign soil is that we tried to have a plan and the Republicans resisted.
