For your work……In a Mother Jones blog on Hispanic workers that were hired to do Katrina clean without be paid and has no way to collect. The interesting thing is that in Mississippi, a Republican stronghold, an employer can hire you, work you and doesn’t have to pay you.

The Hispanic workers are now living in tents under extreme conditions of deprivation and Good Ole Haley Barber, the Republican Gov isn’t doing a damn thing about helping them. He’s just offering that shit eating smirk and a cornpone “tough shit, ethnic people.”

Of course anyone can be cheated out their wages or salary in Mississippi….that’s the Republican way.

1. That may be, but we have a little thing called the 13th Amendment here
No slavery in the US.

I know that a lot of Mississippians were never really happy about that, but they had to go along with it to be allowed back into the union.

Last time I checked that overrides any Mississippi laws.

2. Wouldn't be slavery
Slavery would have to involve involuntary servitude. The servitude was voluntary, the employers just cheated the workers of their pay.

Good time to call a lawyer, get those employers to spend tons of the money they saved defending themselves in a civil suit.

3. The NOW program (PBS) on Friday night covered in depth this
horrible, repugnant "practice". Men are housed in semi's, with bunks stacked 3 high. They are routinely ripped off on their checks. One poor fellow ended up walking around in New Orleans with no money, no friends, no nothing, since his "boss" forgot to show up and pay him. I really really hate the pigs who can do this to other human beings.
