C-SPAN2 Alert -- Kennedy to blast Bush*
Just spoke with his office -- his speech is scheduled sometime between 10-10:30am (as always subject to change based on what happens on the floor).

For a preview:
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2003/10/16/kennedy_to_assail_bush_over_iraq_war/

WASHINGTON -- Ratcheting up his criticism of the war in Iraq, Senator Edward M. Kennedy accuses the Bush administration of telling "lie after lie after lie" to defend its policy in a fiery speech prepared for delivery today on the Senate floor.
"The trumped up reasons for going to war have collapsed," Kennedy says in a speech that underscores his opposition to President Bush's request for $87 billion to fund military operations and rebuilding in Iraq and Afghanistan. An advance copy of the speech was obtained by the Globe.
"The administration still refuses to face the truth or tell the truth," Kennedy says, accusing the White House of misleading the public about every aspect of the war, from the financial costs to the motivation and the aftermath. "Instead the White House responds by covering up its failures and trying to sell its rosy version of events by repeating it with maximum frequency and volume, and minimum regard for realities on the ground."

<snip>

Should be fun!

4. thanks for the heads up!

Dems should have great traction with the relentless brazen DISHONESTY of the talking turds of BushCo.

can you even IMAGINE what would be happening if this level of sleaze, cronyism and blatant LYING were coming from a Democratic administration???

(of course you can't...

6. Is this the same Ted Kennedy who yesterday voted
with the senate to commend themselves on having invaded Iraq and "rid the world and the u.s." of a serious threat?

Look, I appreciate this stance he will be taking. He is stating the obvious in a time when it is dangerous to state the obvious.

But, wtf was going on with yesterday's vote?

7. Good question, Jacobin
I too would like to know what that vote was all about. Why even vote on it? Either vote no or abstain, especially if you then will be telling the Senate that Bush lied about Iraq.

I don't get it.

8. Kennedy makes a Democrat proud....
...to be a DEMOCRAT.

- R-John Cornyn is up now...trying to make lemonade out of the lemon of the no WMD in Iraq report. One of the many propaganists for Bush* we'll hear today.

9. More Rope To Hang On
Right now being obstructionist on this invasion gives this regime cover to blame Democrats with playing politics while the cauldron boils with the scandals and failures of this regime.

This stew needs to boil even higher until it really hits the "sheeple"...they're starting to hear the noise in the distance, they know there's something not going right with this regime...the time to really point things out will be next year and have a big list at the ready.

They're giving us the rope...let's make sure the knot is so firm it strangulates the entire Neo-Con cabal.

11. Cornyn is using Bush's* tactic of blending Iraq and 9-11...
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 08:55 AM by Q
...and mixing the issues into one giant bullshit session.

- Got to hand it to the RWing propagandists: they lie their asses off...but never deviate from that lie as though they truly believe what they're saying.

- "We haven't found WMD...but we've found 'torture chambers". "Found 300,000 people buried in mass graves." "Speading the blessings of Democracy." "Must not play political games".

- Justfiying an illegal, immoral war after the fact.

...as the Republicans launch one of the most revolting propaganda campaigns in history. They have completely distorted the reasons why we invaded Iraq...and now paint themselves as 'saviors' of democracy instead of brutal occupiers hungry for oil and empire.

26. Saddam was/is a bad guy - and we all agree that Saddam gone is good
So what is the problem with the Kennedy vote?

Did the vote say that going to war was the only way and that those against going to war were evil - the GOP line?

24. Speech was given out to the press in advance
so I'm sure his office will make it available to the public as well. I'll be giving his office a call to say "well done" anyway, I'll make sure to ask them to post it on his website as well.

Anyone else want to give Ted a pat on the back, his senate office # is 202-224-4543.

Sen Byrd should be up shortly with another amendment, apparently...

30. Now there's a Byrd thread.
UN in, US take minor role.
Safeguard the A. taxpayer by UN taking responsibility and obligation for rebuilding Iraq.

Gives Bush 6 MONTHS to round up additional support, give Bush 6 MONTHS to prove Iraq rebuilding working, then Congress can vote the rest of the money.YEAH, BYRD.

32. Ted Stevens just said that Iraqi women are
for the first time going to school in Iraq.
That's just a LIE. Iraqi women are very sophisticated. They're scientists, teachers, lawyers...
That's some stupid fucking propaganda right there.
