Edited Thread Title -- I'm Checking To Be Sure There's No Billing Error
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 09:21 AM by Tace
People nationwide are going to go apeshit this winter -- absolutely apeshit.

On Edit: Pardon me, but I'll check to be sure it's not a billing error, it's so outlandish. I don't mean to frighten other people here.

3. What part of the country do you live in?
Do you mind telling how much it went up compared to last year?

We're in the South and we just had to turn the furnace on. I'm holding my breath until the bill comes.

4. Do tell...how much was it?
Electric customers were only supposed to see a minor increase. I haven't gotten a bill yet since the weather got colder. I'm really dreading it.

6. I've Got To Check And Make Sure There's Not A Billing Error
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 09:16 AM by Tace
I don't want to flip people out unnecessarily. My bill is at least double what it should be.

I can't compare to last year, because I'm in a different place. But, this is just electric for lights, and gas for the stove.

Edit: Oh, I live in New York City

8. Check and see if it's an estimate
Some companies read a meter one month and then estimate the next.

10. I don't think anyone's bill should double
Unless it's either a mistake, somebody else is tapping into your meter, or you're using electric as a primary heating source.

7. I agree
My "better half" is an accountant by trade and does excellent analysis of our utility bills including electric. I won't go into the details but we had made SIGNIFICANT reductions in both our electrical and natural gas usage but we're still paying more than last year.

We had two cords of cut and split hardwood delivered on saturday. We used to use the woodburner only for "atmosphere" in the winter time but now it's used to shut down the furnace for a few hours every night.

I'll try damned near anything.

9. We should rerun the 1970's "A house for all seasons" shows
They'd be a lot more useful that Lawerence Welk.

Remember to turn out the lights, wear sweaters and keep stadium blankets ready for when you plop down and go into entertainment mode in front of the television.

11. Was it last winter
or the winter before that heating bills were incredibly high? I know my bills were double from one year to the next, but then of course they dropped to nothing when summer came. Just high electric for the air conditioning, which only shows I'm so spoiled that I have to have a temperature controlled environment no matter what the season.

12. Last two years for me
My gas bills went from around $110/mo in the winter to around $250. My next door neighbors installed a new electric furnace thinking they would save money. The local newspaper estimated that we would see a 5% increase compared to 30% for natural gas. It looks like they're still going to get hit hard.
