1. Every member that accepts this raise should be defeated...
Democrat or Republican.

3. I heard Saturday or Sunday on CSPAN that the cost of living
raise for members of the house was $3000/yr. Someone called in and asked a congresscritter about it. The response was that these raises were automatic and they had no control over them. Well, the law that makes them automatic was created by them. They can't undo it?

8. Automatic.. Pfft!! Senators voted to FREEZE their pay raise this year.
According to "Give 'Em Hell" Harry Reid, the measure was started by the Dems and taken over (aka: stolen) by the RepuliCONs once they knew it was sure to pass. Of course it was also not totally a self less act... many did it with the full realization that they're going into election year and it looks good. Apparently the Congress isn't as worried about that or the hypocrisy as they accepted it and voted to pull a "reveres Robin Hood" and cut assistance for the poor, etc.

Senate votes to freeze pay raise this year
Senators on Tuesday agreed to give up their annual pay raise, saying they need to do their part to save the government a little money in light of the huge expenses from Hurricane Katrina and the growing budget deficit.

Congress is looking for ways to rein in spending, said Sen. Jon Kyl, who sponsored the pay freeze proposal. "It's hard to argue that this process shouldn't include our own salaries." It passed 92-6.

Under Kyl's amendment to a spending bill covering federal workers, senators would forgo the estimated 1.9 percent cost-of-living increase that would otherwise have automatically gone into effect unless the Senate voted to reject it.
<snip>
Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, noted that Republicans took over the amendment this year when it was certain to pass. He said Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., has been the lone Senate voice opposing the pay raises for years, "and no one can take away the fact that this has always been Russ Feingold's mantra."

What I want to know is did ANYONE in Congress try to get a vote going to freeze theirs?

9. Lord knows pol pigs can't be kept from the trough...
Is anyone really suprised by this? It's merely more proof that our elected officials only care about themselves and their cronies. It's time to clean house and remind these criminals who's really in charge - the key fact about democracy that they'd like to forget and often take action to try to prevent. When our elected officials lose their respect for the American people, it's time to knock them out on their rear. They can join the unemployment line with the other Americans they put out of work!
