CNN, MSNBC, FOX News all covering the airplane non-story. Total OD.
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 01:37 PM by RSchewe
This is the same type of story they covered when the plane a few weeks back had the landing gear sideways.

I understand it is a serious situation but do they have to totally OD like this?

Well, it seems like all news is going to have to wait for this to play out.

5. Wind fall profit tax, Liheap, Budget, Extention of tax cut to top 1%.
I think they'll do anything to not talk about voting down the windfall profit tax to help those who will be struggling with heating bills this winter. The Budget will hurt the poor, elderly, students, sell off public land but that's ok because the top 1% will still get their tax break. That plus the $3500 increase in pay topped off a "great" week of legislation. They need a major smoke screen to cover the smell in my opinion. The grandstanding done by Republican's on Friday helped keep what was done domestically out of the news.

3. Enough with the friggin' airplane landing stories!!!!
I'm watching this crap, too, and it's just nauseating. It seems like every week, Kyra Phillips is narrating the story of another small airplane with landing gear problems. I'm sure Space Whore/Flight Buff Miles O'Brien is on his way back to the studio to walk Kyra through all the ghoulish scenarios.

There's something really disturbing about forcing viewers to watch a plane that just might crash.

9. It's just another version of the "police car chases" they used to
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 01:53 PM by Marie26
always show. The suspense keeps people watching for a long period of time, and the ghoulish factor keeps people from changing the channel - guaranteed ratings! The longer the plane is up in the air, the longer they have the guaranteed ratings. Stories about the tax cuts or whatever just don't have that effect.

8. I guess they want a movie-like event or something.
It is pretty sick.

God forbid something bad happens, they want to be there. Reality-tragedy or some twisted news-tainment coverage.

6. Wow. Kyra Phillips just cut off Andrea Koppel...
... while Andrea was giving a very intelligent, reasoned and thoughtful report about Cheney's speech today. Kyra cut her off mid-sentence saying, "Sorry, Andrea! We really want to talk about Iraq but we have these new, great pictures from our local affiliate of the Gulfstream jet in Portland!"

I couldn't help but wonder what was going through Ted Koppel's daughter's mind as Kyra cut her off. Just a few days ago, Ted was sharply criticizing cable news for crap much like these never-ending "I hope the plane crashes" stories.

7. Look how EASY it is to hijack the airwaves!
All you need is a jet! (and a "connected" rolodex)..

"Hey, there's that (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) 'terrorist' round-up scheduled for this afternoon.. What? TV coverage?..no problem"
