GOP says it keep contesting voter registrations
The Republican challenge to the ballots cast by Teri Carpenter, Elizabeth Stanhope and about 200 other King County voters Nov. 8 isn't really about those votes, nor about the outcome of the election, which wouldn't change in any event.

It's an early skirmish in what the GOP promises will be a long and bitter war, a conflict that breaks sharply along the political divide, with both Republicans and Democrats claiming the moral high ground.

"It's perfectly logical to see that we're tying to prevent vote fraud," state GOP Chairman Chris Vance said.

His Democratic counterpart, Paul Berendt, countered, "The Republicans have been fighting to take away the right of people to vote."

1. they're doing that in Wisconsin too
It's like this -- They contest voter registrations and elections. Then, if a Democrat wins a close race, with every breath they talk about how the election is riddled with accusations of fraud. Never mind that they're the ones doing the accusing. It reminds me of the Clinton administration when they were constantly starting investigations that never went anywhere, only to claim that it was 'the most investigated administration'.

5. This is a traditional Republican Party play.
They will attempt to deny protected rights to their opponents when they don't get their way. It's the Republican way.

6. Maybe we should encourage black people to register as Republican?
Especially in "Open Primary" states.

That way, they might not get turned away at the polls.

But boy, it would look strange when 98% of a Republicans in a majority-black neighborhood vote Democrat!

2. It's part of a larger strategy
that includes things like trying to prevent motor voting registration, restoration of felons' rights, trying to deny college students the right to vote, and so on.

3. This is not a new repuke theme
They want to deny voting rights based on a number of qualifications, such as property ownership and education. Every single one of these ideas would result in less non-repukes voting. It is really not logical to see they are trying to prevent vote fraud, as Vance claims. Quite the contrary, they are trying to commit it, and in broad daylight.

Whenever a repuke makes such an asinine suggestion, I say, "So who's going to decide who votes and who doesn't? You?"

This is truly a slippery slope. Every US citizen 18 years old or more should have an unalienable right to vote. No exceptions.

9. This is why Alito's stance is so frightening
He is one of those Republican Elitists who believes that only the landed folk should be able to vote.

He does not believe in Democracy and full representation for everyone!

Hey DU friends

Shout it out ---

Republican Elitist

10. Caging lists - moral high ground my ass!
What ever happened to the story about the caging lists that were accidently sent to the wrong address. I seem to remember the satire Bush* site GWBush.org found a whole bunch of emails that were in an inactive/unused mailbox that was intended to go to the GWBush.com site. I seem to remember there was some incriminating stuff including caging lists. Anyone reamember this event back in Sept/Oct 2004? Was this a real story, or was it just a hoax?
