Looks like I may have been right about Rice
Back in July I speculated that Condoleezza Rice may be at the center of the Wilson/Plame leak. Now it seems like that speculation may, in fact, have been right on. While she is denying her role - the fact that she feels compelled to offer a public defense today should tell us something: namely, the sharks are circling around her and her former deputy, Stephen Hadley.
If the Times of London today is right and Hadley was Woodward's direct source, that raises a very important question: Was Hadley ordered to leak Plame's name to the press by his boss at the time, Condi Rice? In other words, Rice may not have been Woodward's direct source as she claims - but that doesn't mean she didn't give the order. Remember, as I wrote back in July, Wilson's New York Times op-ed was a direct indictment of Rice, meaning she had a personal motive. And it would be extremely hard to imagine Hadley acting alone with such a coordinated hit job on a CIA officer...Stay tuned.

Wilson's oped came out in July, right? With that as a benchmark of before/afters...Plame's name was dropped to Woodward in June before Wilson's piece. Then Novak, after Wilson's piece.

That Plame's name was dropped and circulating BEFORE Wilson's piece indicates, at least to me, that they had already STARTED outing Valerie Plame surreptitiously. Planting the seeds. But if they were trying to discredit Wilson, why use his wife to do so? There are plenty of other ways throughout his career that could have accomplished it. Why use his wife's CIA employment as the lynchpin of discrediting Joe Wilson?

The only conclusion I can come to is that they weren't after Joe Wilson. He's been a phenominal smoke screen for them. Wilson speaking out maintains the diversion and gives more fodder (he's a publicity hound, he's a liar, etc.).

But, when it comes to Valerie Plame, we have yet to see this Administration trot out the "innocent" individual who "unknowingly" blew her cover to step up to a microphone and describe his oopsie along with a resignation letter!

There's something to the reasons for blowing her cover. And it's not her husband's criticism of the Iraq Occupation.

WMDs was getting "too close" to one of the Dick, Cheney's illegal operations. Apparently it had to do with DC selling arms illegally and Bolton was turning the other way.

I agree though that this was not simply a "revenge" thing on Joe Wilson, but far more serious.

They're just using Wilson as an excuse. So many rightwingers claim it's Wilson lying and blah blah, so this way they're focusing on Wilson and not the crime.

Sounds like Rice fits this bill.

And she is apart of the WHIG group so she could've told Hadley what to do and he did it hoping to not make her get caught. I got my popcorn!! :popcorn:

All one has to do is look at all of the promotions that Bush has given in the last year.

Who wants to bet, that Bush was only positioning those involved into higher positions, making it harder to get to them and to keep their mouths shut?
