Oprah is so amazing... on today's show she had an audience

consisting of selfless people who volunteered their help during
the Katrina disaster. They thought they were asked on the show
to talk about their experiences. Turns out they were asked on so
that Oprah could give gifts for every one of them to show her
appreciation for what these heroes did. It was very inspiring. Oprah
said, "We can't repay you but we can celebrate you!"

Thank you, Oprah, for being you!!

I never watch her show anymore. I'm not around at that time. But, I've enjoyed her shows for years. She's a good woman. The audience goes nuts when she gives away stuff or when she has some male star like John Travolta on, lol. I get a kick out of that. :)

around. Now that I am, I find I watch it (nearly) every day.
It's always something different. Sometimes it's deadly serious,
other times it's light-hearted. There's no danger of that show
falling into a rut!!

Many times (like today), I find myself getting quite emotional.
I salute her for saluting the heroes of Katrina!!

It's an interesting show always. She really hits the emotional chord well. Secret: a few times her show made me cry, once when the military awarded Indian author Sherman Alexie the "Purple Hearts" that his grandfather had received in war, but had lost and had trouble getting replaced, and another when they had a tribute to the little Muscular Dystrophy ambassador and poet, Mattie Stepanek, who had just died at the age of thirteen. The whole cast of Ladder 49 was on that day and they were all howling in tears, especially John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix, even some regular firemen were crying. It was wild. Oprah knows how to jerk those tears. :)

I watch Oprah re-runs at night. The piece she did on child trafficking and prostitution was incredible. I'd trade just about any current Senator for her. If Oprah endorses the next presidential nominee, he or she will win.

It will be her first appearance on the Letterman Show on CBS. She was on his NBC Show twice.

Apparently she didn't like Letterman's fat jokes.

It's about time that they buried the hatchet. Should be a fun interview.

I was turned off of Oprah after she helped get Arnie into office here in CA but I have given her a second chance after some of her excellent shows relating to Katrina. It was nice to see some deserving people get something for a change...Cheers to Oprah! :thumbsup:

Oprah is a very fair, generous, compassionate, and
genuine person-- and AhNo? He's a despicable, miserable
little piece of crap. I just can't see her continuing to
support him. She probably thought:

Maria Shriver = Kennedy

(Still can't fathom why Maria took off with a repuke...)

but she humanized him by having him and Maria on and she never gave equal time to Governor Davis. Oprah gave the reason that she was personal friends with Maria, I can see that but it gave Arnie a real political boost. I bet she is real sorry now that she had the guy on, I think she did it as a favor to Maria.

She DESERVES everything she gets in life. She's incredible.

And she has one of the biggest, kindest hearts out there!!

Put their own lives aside and did what was right for someone else. From the woman who quit her job to the man who sold his World Series tickets to go down and help the victims, it was just very encouraging to see good people in action.

But why didn't she give gifts to the victims instead, or have them in the audience as well?

hurricane new houses. That's just the first 50 families. She donated 10 million of her own money and I believe she said her Angel Network had received 5 million to build the houses. Oprah's a real saint in my book. It has also been hinted in the news today that she may back Hillary for president; not sure how I feel about that, but if Oprah backs her, I bet she wins.

I would donate to her before I would people like Pat Robertson.

the program today. Listening to that kind of guff makes me react

She is an angel!!

Say what you will about tax breaks, self-promotion marketing, etc. She truly is one of the few that BELIEVES that her status allows her to bring issues to light that will LIFT UP others.

In many ways, Oprah is a victim of her own success. People ask her motivations and time and time again, it is to lift people up...not for her own personal IRA. That she ends up with a personal benfit from her actions is not an evil, she's Republican type of conspiracy!

I have to seriously wonder about the accusations sometimes...There's always been a core value in me that the giving toward others will bring rewards. They may not be the headlines and awards. I don't seek those. Just the knowledge that it happens is enough. And I trust, when it happens, that those who have received will pass on and encourage the same for the good of society.

But, what if I had a mouthpiece? Would I be criticized and under the same scrutinity? If I had the means to empower others, expecting only that they do the same given only a fraction of my ability...would I be doing it to enhance my bank account? The answer is a simple, NO!

I'm so tired of people piling on others who have been successful and DO have the means AND WORDK TOWARD trying to do good for the lesser among us! At some point, we have to stop eating our own!!!
