You're oversimplifying.

Mislead can mean "to lead in the wrong direction" in addition to meaning "giving false information".

Intention is not an issue with "mislead" (common definitions), except in that this word is especially appropriate when the misleading is intentional. But the "misleading" need not be intentional for the usage to meet the common definitions of the word.

When one speaks of a "lie", the issue of intention plays an important role, at least in the common "understanding" of the word. (Which is, in my opinion, a misunderstanding that leaves a huge gap in the common "understanding" of deception for scoundrels to exploit.)

And if you are going to argue the meanings of words, running a speller might be appropriate, as it indicates some recognition of distinctions.
