Buy Nothing Day is November 25, 2005.
http://www.adbusters.org/metas/eco/bnd/

For 24 hours, millions of people around the world do not participate -- in the doomsday economy, the marketing mind-games, and the frantic consumer-binge that's become our culture. We pause. We make a small choice not to shop. We shrink our footprint and gain some calm. Together we say: enough is enough. And we help build this movement to rethink our unsustainable course.

This year, we've got a radical new tool to keep BND activists connected: JammerGroups, city-based local forums. Click here to join your city.

6. Ridiculous.
Why should anyone care what day I buy stuff?

Friday has some bargains, usually. I'll shop and see if there's some good deals.

7. My guess is they would care
because the amount and origin of the goods you buy have an impact on the kind of world we all live in.

8. this doesn't work
If you go out on November 26 (or any future day) and still buy the things you would have bought anyway, your action has no impact. The way to make a difference is to radically cut back your consumption over a long period of time. Also, you can do your shopping at locally-owned businesses.

I wasn't going to shop anyway on Friday. Any action in which millions of people will participate accidentally can't be an effective one.

See this Snopes entry about Not One Damn Dime Day for a better explanation than I can offer here.
