guide for registered mail activism
I learned the following technique several years ago from a dissent activist in New York City, and it is worth sharing with Y'all.

The incident in question involved Goldman Sach's queueing of limousines to pick up its late-working managing directors to ferry them home at corporate expense... these limousines were sitting beneath our apartment block windows for 8 hours every night running their engines while the drivers argued and fought in loud voices until well after midnight... the local residents were incensed that goldman could care less about us, and i myself did not believe anything could be done about it.

Another apartment resident wrote a formal and detailed letter outlining the offenses and then created a "cc'list" or a list of people to whom this letter was sent. The list contained about 50 names including the state representatives, federal representatives, editor of several publications including the NYTimes, several bank directors in the area, local police chief, mayors office, etc... you get the idea (people who actually had responsibility and influence in the situation) The letter was then copied with its cc'list 50 times and mailed REGISTERED MAIL to each address.

Registered mail is signed for and always delivered to the person in question as it is used for legal documents and such (exactly!). Well, when goldman realized that they were on the cusp of a seriously uncomfortable Press relations nightmare due to this letter whom all the parties involved KNEW they received, they had to act. The problem was sorted in short order.

I have used this same technique with foreign cabinet governments, corporate bosses and all sorts of folks who are otherwise unreachable... and to AMAZING effect. So, if you really have a stick up your behind about some issue that you know who can sort it if you could get a formal message to them... then use registered activism.

Rememeber that every person who gets your letter will read the CC'list and be forced to act relative to their bilateral relations with each name on that list... it is very effective.

I hope this is useful.

best regards,
-sweetheart

2. I've done that...
but without registering the letters.

Don't know if the registered letters add much impact, but the list of recipients does get them moving. Every one on the list also has a boss on the list, or someone else they don't want to mess with and don't want asking them questions about the matter.
