Share a little today
If you want to really feel good about doing some good for someone less fortunate today and tomorrow (and whenever you remember), consider the following things you can do that will only require a tiny bit of effort and make a big difference:

1. Find out where your nearest food bank is located and your nearest clothing charity, and their open times.

2. Call a friend and do this together - or a bunch of people. Rugby team? Chess club? Whatever - you know somebody you can share this with. It's not hard, commit to doing something today.

3. Dig out clothes that you have that are clean and in good repair that you don't wear much -

4. Go SHOPPING! All it takes is 40 or 50 dollars to go get a few frozen turkeys, butter, stuffing mix, sugar, flour, salt & seasonings, cranberry mix, plus other stuff, beans, rice, package pasta & cake, canned veggies, (you'll be surprised how much two people together can get. Talk to the store manager and tell them what you're doing - see if they'll comp an extra frozen turkey. Many of them will do it on the spot. Randall's (Tom Thumb) in Texas gives you a free frozen turkey for every fifty dollars you spend - that's a good deal too, other stores have similar incentives.

5. Deliver!!!!! Yee haw! - you will be walking on air for the rest of the day, even if you can only bring a little bit of food or just a pair of gloves to share, or a trunk full of food and clothes.

Every little bit counts, and charities that help families feed their kids are running low. My partner and I also make special trips to the AIDS Food Pantry in Dallas to deliver for people who have the double misfortune of AIDS and food poverty. Do whatever you can - you will make a difference in someone's life.

And don't forget to do it again, often!

-Sui

1. Kick. Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving
There is only one person on the whole planet that is worse off then the other billions plus of us and it ain't nobody on DU. Five bucks worth of canned goods goes along long way. And if you have an old blanket pass it on to a fellow human being who might be a little cold this time of year.

2. i finally convinced my husband
that the vintage coronet that we bought our son when he was in the school band should go to someone from nola. i hope to get it in today's mail. we bought it off of ebay. it is a little scruffy looking, but the sound is beautiful.
if he does band again in high school, we will find him something else to play.
anyone else who has an old instrument that needs a home-

5. If you have a Randall's Grocery Store, they have a free turkey coupon
this week.

You get a free frozen turkey with a $50 purchase of other stuff.

Seems like an easy way to get a turkey to donate.

While Randall's is generally more expensive than HEB, if you have their Remarkable Card, you can get some great savings on the specials for that week.

Randall's is in Austin and Houston, at least, and I think they are affiliated with Tom Thumb in Dallas.
