Supporting the troops - I want to do more
I am very fortunate that I have no love ones currently serving in Iraq or overseas. A friend's son-in-law was with the 101st at the start of the war but has since returned stateside and is serving in another unit with no immediate chance of returning to Iraq. While he was there I did send him care packages, etc. I always felt a little guilty about sending this guy care packages (although he certainly deserved them)because he was receiving many packages from many family members and friends each and every month. He wanted for nothing except to be home while he was in Iraq.

I couldn't help but wonder how many other guys didn't have that support or family that just couldn't afford to send packages. Does anyone know of a site or clearinghouse that helps match up soldiers, marines, etc. that could use "Care Packages" or a letter every week or so, something to show that people care? The phrase "I don't support the war but I support our military" needs to be a plan of action and not just a "slogan." (I referring to myself when speaking of a slogan. I'm not currently doing anything to support these brave men and women who are having to deal with bombs, gore, terror and homesickness while being lead by an incompetent boob with his head up his ass.

If there isn't a site to help reach these people is this something DU could organize? I do not have a clue how to become involved but I am looking for something that carries on past the holidays. I would like to segue way into an arriving soldier after a soldier goes home until Dubya's War (hence forth and ever more I refuse to call it the Iraq War - it is Dubya's, let him own it) is over and our people are out of harm's way.

DU is 80,000+ strong, is this something we can do together? Just a thought on a day when I know I have so much to be thankful for and I want to pay it forward.

1. Check this out
http://anysoldier.com/

Its a very helpful sight, that will walk you through the procedure. and thanks for caring. As one who has been "over there", nothing beats a package from home regardless of what's inside.

Happy Thanksgiving to you my fellow American.
