Venezuela sending cheap oil to Massachusetts

Joseph P. Kennedy II of Citizens
Energy Corp. and other officials
deliver oil Tuesday to Quincy residents.

QUINCY, Massachusetts (AP) -- Thousands of low-income Massachusetts residents will receive discounted home heating oil this winter under an agreement signed Tuesday with Venezuela, whose government is a political adversary of the Bush administration.

Citgo Petroleum Corp., a subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, will supply oil at 40 percent below market prices.

It will be distributed by two nonprofit organizations, Citizens Energy Corp. and the Massachusetts Energy Consumers Alliance.

The agreement gives President Hugo Chavez's government standing as a provider of heating assistance to poor U.S. residents at a time when U.S. oil companies have been reluctant to do so and Congress has failed to expand aid in response to rising oil prices.

2. Viva Chavez! Viva Citgo!
How come this fellow who is so demeaned by the Christian right is doing the Christian thing of helping the poor? Could it be he's actually PRACTICING the teachings of Jesus?

4. Good point.
I am not sure what the religious right means when they talk about "doing the Lords work" or whatever. But I am pretty sure they are missing the mark. Perhaps Exxon and BP can follow suit? I know. I am living in a dream world. :-)

6. Oh bless your heart.
I miss my Chicago friends. Even though the winters are unforgiving. Although, it's pretty frigid here in NYC today. Brrrrr!

8. Cool! There's Rep. William Delahunt, third one on the hose.
He worked for months to secure this oil for Massachusetts. It's very decent seeing Joseph Kennedy there, too!

Thank you, im10ashus!

9. You're welcome!
I don't care what people think of Chavez, he has done an altruistic deed here, and the repugs will turn their fury toward him for this. How dare a foreigner help those in need. :-)

10. If he had any right-wing sense, he'd only help the wealthy
in another country, and bomb the rest! What could be clearer? It's from the Neo-con Bible!

You grab their stuff, and share it with the sell-outs.

12. Or sell it for HUGE profits.
What kind of oil-rich country does he think he is? Not profiting from the less fortunate? Off with his head!
