Dissent is Patriotic, Unless You're In Crawford Texas ---pix->>>
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 02:14 PM by Stephanie
Amid mounting political acrimony, President Bush on Sunday softened the White House's attack on critics of the Iraq war, saying they have "every right to voice their dissent."

15. Y'all recognize Dan "Pentagon Papers" Ellsberg in that 1st pic, right?
In case anyone is wondering where the 'movement leaders' are...

Daniel Ellsberg (born April 7, 1931) is a former military analyst who precipitated a national uproar in 1971 when he released the Pentagon Papers, the US military's account of activities during the Vietnam War, to The New York Times. His release of the Pentagon Papers succeeded in substantially eroding public support for the war.

22. Can't they make a case that this is a restriction on speech?
I know that laws that will have the effect of quelling free speech rights have to be written in a way that is content neutral, and ostensibly a law against camping in the ditch is neutral, but in the case that camping in this spot has been used as a free speech right in and of itself due to the proximity to Bush's photo-op canned fake ranch, isn't the banning of that outlet a restriction on speech in and of itself?

I think they should fight the law.

26. What is with these paramilitarized cops?
They look like Rhodesian mercenaries or something.

I really don't like this trend toward the militarization of the police. I know the uniforms look real cool and scary and all, but they are more befitting a fascistoid masturbation fantasy than a democratic society where police serve and protect the citizenry.

New laws in Crawford...there are off-limits areas near the ranch.

I'm not saying it's "right", but the arrests were valid under the new laws.

41. Yup as soon as Camp Casey moved the new laws
came into place. What happened to the private land Camp Casey was using?

Also I just want to mention this but from what I heard from people who were at Camp Casey the cops were mostly very nice. From what I read today they gave 3 warnings before they came to make arrests and then when they did show up they asked people if they wanted to walk away or be carried. Seems like they are reluctantly following orders.

on saying this intriguing suppression of freeedom of speech taking place out there in crawford today ....... I wonder what the press in MONGOLIA, CHINA, JAPAN, and whatever other place he may have taken his con game of freedom and democracy to this last time out, might say when seeing this blatant suppression of freedom of speech and democratic dissent as ordered by bush and his brown shirts.

P.S. THE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN. THE ONE WHO OUGHT TO BE ARRESTED IS BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

46. There needs to be a court case so that this can move up the judicial
ladder. It needs to go through the appeals process and eventually get beaten down as a First Amendment barrier.

It could, but I doubt, go all the way to the USSC. I have a suspicion the law in question will be tossed out in the TX court system.

In any case, you need a conviction before you push for appeal and takedown. In fact, to avoid that, the county may just drop charges....because even a small fine, (or lack thereof), comes w/a conviction, and opens up the appeals process.
