1. Depends
Stealing a loaf of bread = off with his head

Lying to the American people to go to war = Congressional Medal of Honor

2. Tough on Crime?
Ain't nothing Republican about it.

Ask Ken Lay and the Oil Privateers, er, I mean Profiters.

They're tough on criminals too.

4. Willie Horton
It was revealed to Bush 41 in a vision that Dukakis was soft on crime.

5. To them that must mean..
the secret initiation rites to gain
entry to their little criminal cabal
are quite tough indeed.

I hear Georgie wields some kind of
probe that... you can guess the rest

7. Depends on what race you are
If you're an old, rich white guy...you can do whatever you want and you'll never even get to court.
But...if you're a black person...and worse, a black person in TEXAS. Well, forget it. You're executed.
And your court appointed lawyer is asleep.
Plus, the conservatives detest trial lawyers. Why? They stand up for the average Joe against corporate America. And they uphold the Constitution. And they make corporate whores who make unsafe products pay.
So. The Republicans are not tough on crime. They're selective.
Just like their family values.

8. It's all in the definitions.
Some guy comes up behind you at the ATM, hits you over the head and grabs $40 out of your hand, that's crime.

Some guy sets up offshore accounts and dummy corporations to hide losses while grabbing $40 million out of the hands of investors, that's business.

9. There's an interesting book out
called "Freakonomics"

The reduction in crime may be more related to Roe v. Wade than anything else.
