DoJ 'Signals' GOP Corruption Probe Could Be Huge, Says NY Times
I found this on Brad Blog. This is excellent! They're saying it could be one of the biggest corruption scandals in history!

DoJ 'Signals' GOP Corruption Probe Could Be Huge, Says NY Times
'Biggest Scandal in Congress in Over a Century'?

>>>>snip

The Justice Department has signaled for the first time in recent weeks that prominent members of Congress could be swept up in the corruption investigation of Jack Abramoff
...
The investigation by a federal grand jury, which began more than a year ago, has created alarm on Capitol Hill, especially with the announcement Friday of criminal charges against Michael Scanlon, Mr. Abramoff's former lobbying partner and a former top House aide to Representative Tom DeLay.
...
Scholars who specialize in the history and operations of Congress say that given the brazenness of Mr. Abramoff's lobbying efforts, as measured by the huge fees he charged clients and the extravagant gifts he showered on friends on Capitol Hill, almost all of them Republicans, the investigation could end up costing several lawmakers their careers, if not their freedom.
...
"I think this has the potential to be the biggest scandal in Congress in over a century," said Thomas E. Mann, a Congressional specialist at the Brookings Institution.

We've recently made some tweaks to try and avoid problem that occured only on Microsoft's IE when used on the Mac.

Have you checked BRAD BLOG lately to find out if the problem still occurs?

If so, please let me know via Private Mail here if you could!

Thanks!

other browsers like Safari, FireFox, and Opera. They have stopped updating IE for the Mac.

Safari displays just fine.

Kentucky Republicans are tied to Abramoff. Even without that, they are in deep shit over the hiring scandal. Our Gov promotes or pardons people in his administration if they are indicted. I wonder why?

25. OT: Second that recommendation
It's really a bad idea these days to use IE on the mac, not for security but for these really bad bugs that Microsoft won't ever fix.

I'm of the opinion that they (MS/Apple) should release some kind of an OS level patch to offer users the ability to switch or something, since IE's a buggy dead end.

It's all about the GOB sucking up money so they can use the money to pay people for favors. Favors that helped win the take over the house and senate and even voting fraud.

In my opinion it is all related and it's just a matter of time before it is all exposed. Jack Abramoff, Tom Delay, Michael Scanlon, Ohio Coingate's Tom Noe, Bob Ney and ....

when all we have to rely on to check the power of this administration is the independence of the criminal justice system's prosecutors

Sad because their mis-adventures have to get to the point of a felony before anything is done

Sad because our "separation of powers" of executive, legislative, and judiciary has broken down so totally

Sad because a purge of the DoJ would eliminate even this protection

14. Was JUST reading all about Scanlon/Abramoff in Franken't new book:
Let's see if I can get the 4 paragraphs in here: Franken:

In 1998, when Scanlon was running the Clinton impeachment "war room" in his capacity as Tom Delay's communications director, he fired off a missive that turned into something of an embarrassment when it was reported in the Washington Post. Watching Pres Clinton testify to a grand jury on tv, Scanlon ruminated on the most prudent way to deal with a wounded political adversary: "This whole thing about not kicking someone when they are down is BS---Not only do you kick him---You kick him until he passes out---then beat him over the head with a baseball bat---then roll him up in an old rug and throw him off a cliff into the pounding surf below!!!"

When that e-mail hit the papers, even some Repubs were embarrassed. But amid the kerfuffle, or maybe because of the kerfuffle, Abraham Jackoff (as he was known in high school) was impressed. He talked the young, not-fully-formed Scanlon into joining his lobbying and law firm, Preston Gates. Besides nabbing a rising star, the hire helped cement Abarmoff's extremely profitable relationship with Tom Delay.

As Newsweek's Michael Isikoff would report: "For years, nobody on Washington's K-Street corridor was closer to DeLay than Abramoff." Scanlon wasn't the first DeLay aide to enjoy the fruits of that friendship, but he was almost certainly the one who got the most fruit. As Abramoff put it in yet another e-mail to Scanlon, an uncharacteristically nonracist one: "You are a great partner. What I love about our partnership is that when one of us is down, the other one is there. We're going to make $$ for years together."

And Scanlon felt the same way: "You got it, boss."

The Truth (with jokes), p.170

17. If Gonzales Keeps Hit Mitts Off This Operation, I'll Reconsider My Hatred
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 05:30 PM by corbett
Beyond that fact that he was yet another * crony, I opposed Gonzales' confirmation to AG for two reasons:

1) He supports the use of torture as an investigative technique (He's famous for using the adjective "quaint" to describe portions of the Geneva conventions); and

2) He firmly believes that a sitting president should be immune from all criminal prosecution.

Gonzales performance thus far as AG, though, has been tolerable in my humble opinion. He could have thrown several curve balls at Fitzgerald but apparently didn't. How, if he allows Abramoffgate to proceed unabated, I may have to rethink my hatred for his credentials and curriculum vitae.

...unless it becomes the impetus for, once and for all, an overhaul of the way we finance elections. There's got to be a way to get this damn money out of the loop. Shorter campaigns...limits to the amount of advertising...public financing of all broadcast advertising...no television at all other than televised debates...term limits...something...anything.

Get the money out of this thing and the Abramoff's will dry up and blow away.

52. Recommended - Is Fitzgerald working with the Abramoff Special Prosecutor?
Do you suppose that Tom Flocco was right and Gonzales refused to present the indictments to bush and/or cheney.

What would a Special Prosecutor do if the head of the DoJ refused to present indictments.

Ashcroft steadfastly refused information requested from Rep. Conyers and I don't think he even replied to the questions about the election fraud.

I think Conyers also requested information or action by Gonzales and as usual got nowhere.

Congressman John Conyers's diary :: ::
<snip>
Before I describe its contents, a word about procedure going forward. The House is likely to take up the bill as early as Thursday morning, and the Senate soon thereafter. There is not much time.

:wtf: :wtf:Throughout the conference, Democrats were excluded from negotiations about the bill, but the Bush Administration Justice Department was included. It is bizarre to say the least for a conference that is supposed to be between elected representatives to exclude those representatives and instead include a group with a vested interest in the bill -- the Justice Department.:wtf: :wtf: No similar access was provided for the American Civil Liberities Union or Americans for Tax Reform, groups with concerns about the Act.

As to the substance of the bill, it contains many illusory provisions that appear to be pro-civil liberties, but are really meaningless or steps backward. Here is a rough sketch: :wow: :kick:

59. I was wondering...
What if a whole bunch of them fall under indictment and resign and go to jail and then we have to hold emergency elections. The Dems might be able to retake Congress that way and then we could start the impeachment proceedings. I'm starting to think the "Doomsday" bill can not only be used in a situation where a bunch of Congress people get wiped out by a terrorist attack, but it can also be used in situations where large numbers of them get indicted and have to resign.
