What is going on? The Repubs were out in force denouncing Murtha and now they are saying the same thing. I think this is all about election 2006 and public opinion. They are saying two different things, stay the course and withdrawal.

1. political life is hard when you refuse to read the polls
not shifting with the political winds, they are forced to stick to their principles, which apparently involve keeping the enemy guessing by announcing different strategies every day.

:sarcasm:

2. Simple.............

They dont want the Democrats, ie Murtha, to get credit for the troop withdrawal. They want to take the credit so Bush and the Republicans can claim it was their plan. Murtha ruined their plan, now when they start drawing down troops from Iraq everyone can point to the statements from Murtha.

4. It is about the 2006 elections, I am sure.
But he really can't have it both ways this time.

I doubt he really pulls out significantly - he'd be a quitter by his own definition.

But he has pissed off every moderate in the country, too.

One thing is pretty clear, the repugs know they are in deep trouble going into the 2006 elections. And they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

That is true as long as the dems finally get their act together.

Have a great Thanksgiving all.

Joe

5. Well first they made up a resolution for Murtha that implied he wanted
to leave last week - and then they put forth their idea - to leave in 6 months.

They don't want anybody but themselves getting credit for anything. It is their brand.

Idiots!

7. look at it like this
everyone basically voted down murtha's proposal. both dems and repukes. now the repukes have a very similar plan (although it seems alot more similar to john kerry's plan that got smacked down). how do the dems vote? do the dems vote "no" so the repukes can call them flip floppers and say that they don't really want to thr troops out of iraq? everything the dems were talking about was for political gain to smear the bush adminstration.

or

do they vote along with the republicans plan and now the republicans can take credit for having the plan that got voted on to withdrawl troops?

either way it is a losing situation for the dems. they screwed themselves not aligning themselves with murtha. there was no way in hell that murtha's plan would have passed anyway, there wasnt a republican who would have voted for it and they have the majority. basically it would have shown that the demicrats are for bringing the troops home and when the repukes turn the tide like they are now, it will look like the repukes jumped on our bandwagon.

it was a huge mustake for the democrat senators to not vote in favor of murthas plan.

13. Duncan Hunter?
Do i have that right? Republican Duncan Hunter's plan.

that's the plan that got voted down in the House.

NOT Murtha's.

their whole intention was to confuse the two.
