To shame who Michael Shepard was as a person, a minister from Kansas is planning on erecting a monument in Wyoming (place where he was killed).

It will state "Matthew Shepard entered Hell, October 12, 1998"

3. Perhaps they could use the recent Supreme Court ruling as a precedent

Perhaps if the city passes an ordinance banning hateful speech like that, they could remove.

For example, Virginia passed a state law banning cross burnings. It was upheld by the Supreme Court because it was deemed offensive.

6. Reminds me of an old line...

A guy makes his first trip to the big city. He flags a cab, hops in and immediately starts bitching to the driver.

"This place sucks! It's filthy, the people are rude, it's noisy...yeah, this city is the asshole of the world!"

8. Reaction formation.

Hatred covers up unacceptable feelings he has inside. He was taught that being gay will end you in hell, then when he has such feelings he needs to deal with them, so he insists that gays are sinners... that keeps his feelings unconscious. Some day they will creep out and then his "hell" will be living with himself.
