How did it go yesterday and today, and tommorrow with ...
Repug relatives, for Thanksgiving. Was it all fun and games around the dinner table or afterwards. Is everyone still speaking? I hope there weren't any serious family breakups or entanglements. Were any minds changed concerning the Commander and thief and company?

3. We have avoided him for the last year
Never liked him much anyway but since the election, we haven't called them and they haven't called us.

Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 12:57 PM by seabeyond
started talking out loud to keep my voice out when the cowboys messed up and i was talking about their inadequacies. i couldn't help myself, sitting between my repug father and brother. i say repugs do the same thing, put hands to ears and i demonstrate, in such laughter. another guest starts laughing and reminds me about the la la la la la............so i add that to my performance.

not a word from the repugs. i have to believe since my father and brother haven't talked politics around me for a good while, that they see the incompetence also. it just does not feel to me there is a lot of support for bush and his republican party with my family

we had a wonderful thanksgiving, of laughter, and jest, and play and being together. just wonderful.

5. Ours was wonderful...
It was a small gathering of immediate family members from the sane side of the family. We talked about Harry Potter with the kids, music nowadays, are the Chicago Bears for real, ....no, this pie was NOT home cooked, etc....

The new girlfriend of one of my nephews is a high school arts teacher who works in ceramics. She delighted all of us with her creative teaching methods. I told my nephew she's a keeper.

We did touch on political subjects but the warmth of the gathering didn't allow us to dwell. It was more lighthearted than I ever expected. For those few hours it was lovely just to be a family talking of nothing important.

6. "Yesterday, today, and tomorrow?"
Wow. Who do YOU work for, that you actually get a holiday weekend?

MY employer will be forcing people in... on Christmas Eve AND Christmas DAY. AND New Year's. And, in fact, every other federal holiday.

Mine is a federal employer, by the way. USPS.

They could care less about my family or my life.

7. Luckily, I was sick and didn't have to face it.
I was going to beg off, anyway. My mother unexpectedly left town and my brother was going to have Thanksgiving at a restaurant. Sigh. For awhile I felt rather upset that our family is so dysfunctional. The neighbors across the way were having a feast with family and I was alone and feeling ill. Of course, who knows? Maybe they have issues, too.

This morning, as if to make up for her absence, my mother returned from the requisite shopping spree with gifts. I feel kind of weird. To make up for her emotional and physical absences when I was a child, she did the same thing. It feels strange to accept the gifts, if that's what they are. I think she did it to buy me off for awhile. :( My mother is a study in opposites and it confuses me. I love her, but she confuses me.

Oh well.

8. I'm guessing my mother had a good time at my brother's house in Utah
assailing him and his family with her wingnutty ideas, the latest of which is to hire mercenaries to go down to Aruba and beat the tar out of Deepak Whatsisname and Joran Vandersloot (sp?) and his dad, too, because he knows what happened to her. She was probably sold into sexual slavery, don'tcha know.

My son and I went to the home of my nice liberal co-worker, where we met the most annoying guy in the world (who I later discovered is very active in the Democratic party) and then sat through a very long and wingnutty-sounding blessing on the food administered by the annoying guy's wife, like good little atheists.

The only political discussion came after the amen, when someone added, "And please send us a leader."

9. I sat at the head of the table
and when the most conservative member of the group started in, I said in a lovely voice: PUT A SOCK IN IT, ASSHOLE.

Nah. But I imagined I did. What I did say is "Let's save politics for cigars and brandy after dinner" all the time knowing there was none.
But I also fixed them with "Grannie's evil eye" and that was that.

10. A house full of liberals -- harmony reigned
We were united in our disgust with the administration and talked about the best course of action for changing things.

12. I honestly don't know any Republicans.
I mean, I guess I "know of" a few, but we definitely have no Republican friends here. This is Portland, and we've been lucky that we've easily been able to craft a Republican-free life here.

Plus, my digestion would have suffered!
