Just when you thought it couldn't GET any more blatant....
I've been skimming the walmart/violence threads this am on DU. They turned my stomach. I thought, could it really be that bad? I haven't watched corporate media in a year. So I flipped by CNN a few minutes ago.

Yes, it's all true. But now, "senior analyst" Jeff Greenfield is adding his "gravitas" to the party. He came out and pooh-poohed any suggestion that all this commercialism and violence may not reflect the true spirit of Christmas. Under a headline blaring that shoppers are the "true patriots", he predicted that there would be economic disaster if we don't engage in this mindless consumer violence.

That's right, folks.... You're practically an economic terrorist if you don't buy into this insanity. You heard it on CNN, the most trusted name in news.

Excuse me while I go barf. Oh, and I'm back on my corporate media boycott now, for good.

7. "True patriots" by running those credit cards up to the max?

Thanks to the BFEE economy, the average taxpayer has no disposable income and the evil banks and credit card companies are now reaping the gains that their PACs have sown. People will be in debt for years thanks to this asshole and his co-conspirators.

8. Just think if everyone quit..........
buying all the junk at Christmas, and began to celebrate the real Reason for the Season.....hmmmmmm. I really think many shoppers couldn't give a shit about Jesus, they just like to spend, spend, spend. The reason today is called "black" Friday is because most businesses finally get into the black on the books. Something to think about...giving gifts of the self instead of something you buy at Wal Mart.

19. Actually I consider myself one of the lucky ones
No car payment, rent isn't that bad, my utilities and car insurance are a little over $200 a month. No kids and, thankfully, no major illness since I don't have health insurance. My grandma taught me to love macaroni and noodles when I was little, so I make lots of casseroles to save on food.

I have a TV, VCR, DVD player and computer stuff from the fat times. They all work perfectly, why should I replace them?

I can't imagine a person who has kids living the way I do, but for me it's fine right now.

16. If we really wanted to hurt bush/Rethugs we could just all stop
buying anything that isn't absolutely necessary. We could give all our friends IOU's for gifts and put the money in the bank and give it all to them in '08 when the Dems were in control. Wow! What a Xmas that would be. We could also include the interest we earned.

17. I Was in the Mall Today
Just to return a defective DVD boxset, not to indulge in all the madness. I went by Wal-Mart & wondered if people in there were fighting over the computers yet. With what is going on in the country, it *is* pretty disgusting that all people can do is go around to store sales like sheep. America is going to have to change *a lot* if I am ever going to
have respect for my country again.

23. Did you actually see fighting in the walmart lines?
I'm sure it's just a hyped story to get more people to go to walmart. Of course it turns our stomachs, but bushbots are probably attracted by mindless violence and cheap goods from China.

24. Jeff Greenfield sold out years ago.
I still remember reading his 1968 Populist Manifesto that he dedicated to Robert Kennedy. Just look at how far he has fallen, now he's just your average PRE$$TITUTE!

25. I agree
I haven't watched CNN in a year, but before that I was a cable junky. So I am very familiar with Greenfield, and he is worse than your regular presstitute, IMHO. He's like Tweety; he poses as some kind of "liberal", but just happens to repeat all the RW talking points. Go figure.
