Show us your papers, please.
About a woman in Denver who refused to show her ID just to commute on a daily bus ride to work. Eventually the Feds got involved and the case is now working it's way through the courts....

5. and yet, still. . . the first person to use the word "Nazi" loses?
Being required to "show papers" on a public conveyance for no particular reason is despicable. But "everything changed" on 9/11, and many, if not most, citizens see nothing wrong with this.

"I haven't done anything wrong, so 'why not?'"

11. If most citizens see nothing wrong with this
then they need to be reminded of Nazi Germany.

There... I invoked "nazi" one more time. In this context it is entirely proper.

6. This is so bizarre
1 - why would ordinary people have to show papers?
2- why would suspected criminals have to show papers?

Did I miss some law that got passed? Or is this all swept under the Patriot Act?

7. I seem to remember something about "Probable Cause"
Unconstitutional to search a person's being or their papers without a warrant or in later days "Probable Cause".

9. It seems that "probable cause" since the Patriot Act is NOT allowing them
to see ID or search your vehicle. It's the old "if you're innocent then you have nothing to hide" BS.

12. That reasoning was used in the Salem Witch Trials.
Why, oh why, am I not surprised to see it now?

8. We live on the border of Canada & it's not uncommon for a border patrol
check points to be set up since 9-11. It's pretty so surreal to have this happen in my own country and not while actually crossing the border.
