Wasted Life
If only a few soldiers felt like this today we might be able to end this madness.
--------
Stiff Little Fingers: Wasted Life

I could be a soldier
Go out there and fight to save this land
Be a people's soldier
Paramilitary gun in hand
I won't be no soldier
I won't take no orders from no-one
Stuff their fucking armies
Killing isn't my idea of fun

(Chorus)
They wanna waste my life
They wanna waste my time
They wanna waste my life
And they've stolen it away

I could be a hero
Live and die for their 'important' cause
A united nation
Or an independant state with laws
And rules and regulations
That merely cause disturbances and wars
That is what I've got now
All thanks to the freedom-seeking hordes

(Chorus)

I'm not gonna be taken in
They said if I don't join them I just can't win
I've heard that story many times before
And every time I threw it out the door

Still they come up to me
With a different name but same old face
I can see the connection
With another time and different place
They ain't blonde haired or blue eyed
But they think that they're the master race
They're nothing but blind facists
Brought up to hate and given lives to waste

1. there are many more than a few actively resisting now. and those in
Iraq, now, risk their lives if they *openly* resist on the battlefield, so they can't let us know they feel that way.

just to say there are many.

thank you for posting that, though. it is powerful.

peace!

2. I hope you're right
I work with a Marine that just got back from Iraq a month or so ago. Unfortunately he seems to be one of the part of the problem types. We were watching the news one night and they had a small report about a family in Iraq that was killed during a raid and all he said was "fuck them". On more than one occasion he has told us about going on raids and not finding any weapons or explosives but they still trashed the locals house and especially their prayer rooms. Sickening.

6. it must be very difficult to be around that, from that marine.
there are many. but know that they also have to be around that type of attitude, and how dangerous it is for them to speak out.

they're there, though. and here, resisting.

thank you, electricmonk!

peace!

3. This one, too
"The Professionals," from the 1981 film "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains."

Yeah, I wanna see the world for free
But I don't like the things you see
Hup-two-three-four really ain't my style
The call-up calling us again
The commies are coming, did I hear you say?
Who cares, who knows, maybe I will one day

(Chorus)

Who knows what you're gonna be?
Who knows when your turn will be?
Join the professionals
Be a professional
Join the professionals today
Join the professionals
Be a professional
You're gonna be one anyway

A kick in the head every day for a year
Wouldn't even keep me goin' there
A shot in the heart secretly for me
Do they really have a say
In what goes on with you each day?
Does your country mean that much to you?

(Repeat chorus)

Note: "Join the professionals" was a British recruiting slogan in the '70s and perhaps later.

5. I scored it from eBay a few months ago
The DVD is obviously ripped from a VHS tape of one of the "Night Flight" showings; the quality sucks. But since the film was never even released, I consider myself pretty lucky to have it at all.
