15,000 hepatitis cases reported in Baghdad neighborhood

(and it's all our fault)

http://www.azzaman.com/english/index.asp?fname=news%5C2005-11-26%5C1004.htm

There are 15,000 cases of Hepatitis in Al-Sadr Town, one of Baghdad’s most impoverished neighborhoods, a study has revealed.

The study was conducted by doctors and scientists concerned with the living standards of the town, where more than 1.5 million people live.

Hashem Mohammed, a leader of Moqtada’s organization, said the group decided to undertake the investigation when it found that the government and the health ministry did not have the capacity to carry out such study.

The investigation shows dramatic increases not only in hepatitis, a serious disease of the liver, but also in cases of major communicable diseases.

The sewage system in the city does not function properly and heavy water from open sewers inundates streets.

The study says a laboratory examination has found the tap water heavily polluted.

5. Wonder why the sewerage system does not function properly: at whose feet
does this lie and where are those reconstruction funds going if not to rebuild the destroyed/damaged infrastructure?

6. Haliburton has been dumping sewage
Edited on Sun Nov-27-05 01:46 PM by Ferret Mike
in swamps, street gutters or anywhere else they can get rid of the contents of the porta potties at U.S. Military facilities.

These people are contractors who get money to remove the sewage, and obviously care to get rid of it the cheapest way possible.

Naturally they have no concern about the health of the locals.

I was told this by a good friend who was just in Iraq with the Oregon National Guard.

He told me they would take the contents of the porta potties right out behind the base and dump it right where local kids like to fish.

We should be investigating the way Haliburton is doing what it is getting paid for. Naturally Bush doesn't care, as he is projecting our military to protect oil, not help the Iraqi people. So the move to check up on Haliburton would never come from him or his handlers.

8. Haliburton doesn't care...
My friend is very trustworthy at his word. I believe Haliburton is vulnerable to being exposed for this wrongful disposal of bio toxic sewage in a manner that harms the people of Iraq.

My friend told me that there had been U.S. troops in the back of trucks that had been drenched by sewage they had dumped in city drains, and that's the only reason they stopped doing that is because they were worried about the health and welfare of the military personnel.

This makes it obvious the brass has a pretty good idea what Haliburton is doing with this sewage.

My friend is a forest activist like me who has worked doing ground support at tree sits I have conducted in Eugene, Oregon. He went into the Guard because he had heard my tales about my nine years as a U.S. Army paratrooper. He expected to make extra money, and never expected to go to war.

I went to war for George HW Bush in Panama. My experience seeing a pointless Bush war has made a believer in the need for war crime trials with people like GW Bush as a handcuffed guest of honor. I would give my right arm to see that.

He had gone up to one of the drivers and expressed his concerns about this sewage dumping. The driver told him, "My dog back home has more rights on this planet then most of these Muslims." He was unmoved by the knowledge kids fished there.

He's also told me other interesting things, but I have to be mindful that he is still in the Guard and this is all the information I am going to give online in open forum.
