Latest affirmation of my decision to leave the Catholic church...
I have actually been a "recovering Catholic" for some time...and every day I see stories like this that just reinforce that decision

<snip>
JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri (AP) -- The battle over embryonic stem cell research moved into the pews Sunday, as Roman Catholic priests across Missouri urged churchgoers to oppose a petition seeking a constitutional amendment that would protect the controversial work.
<snip>

<snip>
"The similarities of the arguments behind the destruction of life by the Nazis and the use of human embryos are scary," he told hundreds of worshippers at a morning Mass. "There are real human lives that need our support and protection."
<snip>

Pretty reprehensible comparing stem-cell advocates with Hitler, when the church they are a part of are purging gay seminarians basically because they consider them to have "personality defects"

Unbelievable...well not really!

1. Come on now
A recovering Catholic should understand the doctrine of moral equivalency. I hope your not that flippant in a less friendly venue.

2. Not being flippant...
If the Catholic church sees fit to compare those advocating stem cell research with the Nazi's...it is certainly not unreasonable to take them to task for their reprehensible purges of gay seminarians. After all it isn't because they would not be good priests, it is in the words of one Bishop due to "defects in their personality." Sounds "frighteningly" similar to the reasons the Nazis sterilized the retarded and others they considered "defective"

4. Recovery is a good thing. Church of hypocrisy
Comparing stem-cell advocates to Hitler. What a hoot, from a church whose leader, Pope Pius XII, signed a concordat with Hitler. Purging gays from the ranks of the seminary. Hmmm, putting gays in concentration camps. But I would never offer such a comparison, an argument, so obviously an hyperbole, playing upon emotion and fear. No rational person would offer such a vile comparison.

Rational? Sorry, perhaps I am asking to much of the Catholic church.
