Board game created based on the Iraq War
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- The board game "Battle to Baghdad The Fight For Freedom" uses cards and dice to have players get to the Iraqi capital with the most soldiers.

Some call the game in bad taste, because soldiers are in harm's way, while others say the game is factual and true to life, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

Mirroring real life, the game has military commanders and political players encounter unexpected hazards on their journey through the desert.

"It had never crossed my mind that people would object," said the game's creator Rick Medina, a construction contractor from Oregon. "Iraq is on the television, in the media and part of our lives."

1. Who would want to play this game?
Seriously--isn't the reality grim enough?

5. Lots of armchair generals.
War gaming is a popular pastime.
"Battle to Baghdad" looks like standard fare.
It was only a matter of time before they
got to the Iraq campaign. Unfortunately,
this kind of game does not deal with
the messy aftermath.

6. Something's missing from that photo ...
Oh yeah, the "Torture Wheel"
You spin it every so often when the game gets "catastrophically successful"

8. I have a more scaled down Iraq game called "Stay the Course"
All you need are two six sided die. You roll them and if a 2 through 12 comes up, you roll again. If you stop playing, then the terrorists win. If you express any dissatisfaction with the game while playing, that emboldens the terrorists.

10. based on the Iraq War? Looks like it was only based on the invasion part

There should be a game for the extended occupation. Now THAT would be a challenge.

You have to supress insurgencies and restore public services in a war-torn embargo-impoverished state, while looking for nonexistent WMDs and gathering questionable intelligence linking Iraq to Al Qaeda in order to keep your funding levels and world PR up. You lose points for allowing looting, civilian deaths due to counter-insurgency ops, and any footage leaked to the press of atrocities committed by troops or contractors on your "detainees". Getting sweetheart contracts for favored industry giants is bonus points.

The object of the game is to leave Iraq as soon as possible after establishing a stable unified government capable of providing Iraqis with defense, international commerce, and public services. Your final score is based on the "Saddam scale", i.e. how much of an improvement (if any) your interim occupation was over the preceding Ba'athist sanctions regime.
