BBV Question: Write-in candidates?

I was just thinking about BBV and it occurred to me that from what I understand, the candidates have to be loaded into the machine and you are required to select one from the list provided. If you are a voter who prefers a candidate of your own choosing, or yourself, of just want to be a smartass and vote for Mickey Mouse, isn't your right to vote being threatened?

The fact that you may support a candidate who cannot possibly win has never disallowed you from voting for the candidate of your choice, as far as I know, since voting began in this country. Could this be a point of attack against BBV? Or have they come up with an answer to this sticky situation in something that I haven't read yet?

... are generally accomodated. Most states have categories of certified write-ins (ones who did not file in time but had submitted their name with enough signatures) and uncertified write-ins. Most touch screens can accomodate both by bringing up a screen with a keyboard for write-ins or using a keypad.

What happens after the name is recorded is another matter....

Yes indeedy. There is a case in, I believe Penn., where a fellow was a write in candidate for some office and he, naturally voted for himself, but on the official tally he rec'd "no votes".
