Neighbor issue
Some buffoon in my office prints out and reads “Neil’s Nooze” every day from Neil Boortz’s idiotic libertarian-wet-dream website. I know this because after he reads it he leaves it in the restroom garbage can.

A few weeks back I started making little 2x3 signs that say “Boortz Is A Hack” and leaving them where they’re likely to be found but only likely to be comprehended by a Boortz-fan. Places like the side of the toilet paper dispenser, the inside of the restroom garbage, etc. It was clear, I think, that I didn’t know who the fan was, and he definitely didn’t know who was leaving the notes.

Moments ago I found out that the Bootz-fan in question is MY VERY OWN CUBEMATE!!

I mean, I knew that he was conservative, but for some reason I never suspected him.

So now we’re in this bizarre and sporadic quasi half-anonymous quarrel. How can I persist, knowing the truth as I do?!?

1. I don't know
If I felt like making more trouble, I'd start printing out information from media matters on how Boortz lies. Otherwise, I might try to forget the whole yucky thing.

2. I have only one question
Why are you looking through the restroom garbage can? YUCK!!

4. My hobbies are none of your business, thanks very much
Actually, it's an open, wall-mounted receptacle with a stainless steel panel above the bag. Installments of "Neil's Nooze" have appeared on the very top of the garbage and are hard to miss. My little notes have gone on the stainless steel panel.

And I wash my hands afterwards, of course.

3. You mean you can't get along with someone as a co-worker...
because they are conservative? That is a serious work issue YOU need to deal with before it affects your livelihood.

5. If I were half as serious as you seem to think I am, I'd worry
But it's just one of those "ick" things that doesn't really hinder my performance or his.

7. I think it is funny. Good for you. I would have to start printing up
anti Faux News, etc. Lord knows there is plenty to pick from - and start leaving them on top of the other junk. Just the thought that there is someone, somewhere that disagrees with the propaganda that is spewed out daily from the hate sites is enough to explode the heads of neocons and freepers.

Of course, you do have to give kudos to the guy, he is at least putting the nonsense where it belongs - in the trash. He could be posting on a bulletin board or on his wall in his office. Whether he agrees with it or not, he does know it is garbage.

10. I meant just stop because it isn't going to get any better!
Personally I'd pretend it never happened. Of course it will drive him nuts.

11. I don't think it is wise to get political at the office.
I have anti-war and anti-Bush posters and stickers on the walls on my cubicle, but I would never dream of spreading them outside my own personal space.

12. You cannot improve on the situation, it's already optimal
Edited on Mon Nov-28-05 02:46 PM by 0rganism
Let it escalate, even. See if you can get your anonymous activist involved in a leaflet war. Enjoy the humor. You know something he doesn't, make the most of the situation.

You are unlikely to change his mind, and you jeopardize your working relationship if you out yourself, so just keep going on as you already are. Maybe start leaving edited copies of the newsletter in the restrooms, with the lies and omissions clearly annotated as such.

13. Good advice
I make no secret of my politics, even if I don't plaster my cube with anti-Bush materials. But I don't think my cubemate would guess that this particular mischief originates with me...

14. Now I have a bigger problem
I just learned that another cubemate likes that 4Non Blondes song. Good grief—what’s wrong with the world?
