Portland Band on National Tour to Promote Awareness and Action Against Voting Machines

Portland new wave band Railer are touring for 5 weeks across the country, with a mission to inform and invigorate fans and voters to take local action to prevent voting machines from being purchased and installed for the 2004 election.
Portland, OR - October 6 - Upcoming Portland band Railer is launching a nationwide music tour in mid-October to join the fight against fraudulent voting technologies. The popular new wave rock act that won the Northwest's largest ever band search will tour coast to coast spreading information about the new technologies while introducing new fans to their unique sound.

Railer frontman Randall Scott says "I think this is an excellent way to educate and invigorate people that aren't afraid to take action. The American voting system is on the fast track to corruption and we have less than one year to stop it before we lose every shred of democracy there is left."

3. Yeah! I Just Happened on This Because I Remembered Another Post
It needs BBV on the subject line so all the BBV'ers are aware of it.

4. Hack the Vote!...Indie music's answer to Rock The Vote
i guess it would be Don't Hack the Vote, but that just doesn't have the same ring to it.

5. Hmmm... I hope
they don't say anything stupid and then it's reported on the media and passed for our official position... Other than that, it's cool... -C

7. Concert report
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 10:26 AM by Bushfire
fairly small turnout, but it was the beginning of the week while hardly being promoted by the venue at all. The singer of Railer spoke to me before, and after the show. He could only be in his early 20's, but knows the implications if these machines do not come with a paper trail. His band is also very popular in the Portland area. They have a edge to them not unlike Nine Inch Nails, or some of the recent Bowie. He listed Radiohead, and the Pixies as influences on him. His band has other influences as well. He stopped after the second song to mention Rush Holt's bill, and framed it as "whatever your politics are" this is a bi-partisan issue that everyone can get behind. Several people grabbed the flyer at the merchandise table when he was done, and others later that night did too. I bought their excellent cd, and gave him some extra cash to make some copies for the other cities on the tour. Please see this band if they come to your town, or pick up their great cd. They are getting radio airplay accross the country too. Their cd is being distributed by Caroline records, so most record stores could order it for you. I did mention that his band was being mentioned on DU, and he was quite happy about that.
