Anyone Seen the Paul Hackett article...

...in Mother Jones? It's terrific. I love that guy. The first anecdote is from his congressional race. He was out convassing and a suporter of Hackett's opponent was heckling him for some ads he ran ("You don't know Schmidt"). So Hackett asked the guy to repeat himself, then said "Waaaa! You got a fuckin' problem? Then say it to my face!" The guy walked off mumbling and Hackett talked about how the Republicans put on this facade of being bullies but the minute you challenge them, the cower away or try to shout louder. That's it. It's so simple. And he is so great.

Why does it excite me so much just to hear a Dem candidate actually swear? He also called Bush a sonofabitch.

Because it proves he's a normal human being who's not just putting on a face? Because he's embodying the anger that so many of us feel, and putting it out there? Either way, I like it, too!

These people are bullies. They like to act tough, put on their tough guy hats and strut around talking about all their guns, but in the end, they really are afraid of any sort of confrontation. Like all bullies. The only way to deal with them is to stand up to them.

And standing up to the repulsive bullies, and simple declarative sentences like, "You're lying." "You're lying again." "You're still lying, you miserable sonofabitch." As long as we Democrats try to play nice and follow the rules of courtesy and good-sportsmanship, we'll continue to lose ground.

I saw Clinton on CSPAN talking this past weekend (or earlier in the week, not sure) talking at a book thing in Texas. He was talking about how democrats need to fight back instead of saying "oh please let me win every once in a while." And he also told how Gingrich told him the reason why they attacked him all the time is because if they didn't he would win all the time.

These bully republicans have it in their mind they're tough and macho and we liberals are all peace nick hippies. I am a hippish type person but if I had to fight someone I would glady to do so. I used to be bullied on so I've learned how to handle people like that. That's something I love about Mr. Hackett and Senator Reid. They both stand up to the republicans but have different ways of doing it. Hackett doesn't give a damn and Reid is a tiny bit more poliet about his doing so but he has a soft voice so I think that's why. I've seen him get rough before and it's great! (the reporters when he closed down the Senate)

We need many more Paul Hacketts in politics. I'm in Ohio and I'm already planning on campaigning for the man.

And probably a lot of southern Ohioans are smacking their foreheads right now thinking..."Wow...we coulda had Paul Hackett." (On second thought, knowing that area of the state, nah -- probably not.)

I think he's destined for much bigger and better things, and is a long-overdue antidote for this country.

I live in the Ontario North, retired, born American, Naturalized Canadian. Came to Canada with hubby who had orders for Nam. We arrived Woodstock weekend 1969. We stayed here in Canada although he got his amnesty from Carter. He fought the other than honorable discharge all the way to the Pentagon.. Neat place. Could picture it on 9/11.

I never voted in an American election until 2004. In 2000 my dying hubby and I watched the chads counted. In 2004 I saw my vote was needed. My hubby was born in Toledo. My fiancee is also from Ohio. He is from Youngstown area. He hadn't voted in 35 years, since coming back from his Air force (volunteered) Nam time tour in the Philippines. He went to several Kerry Ohio campaign stops and to a Bush Ohio campaign stop as a protester, almost getting jailed. He and his best friend, a Viet Nam Navy Seal vet, who never ever voted in an American election, both voted for Kerry. They were sure Kerry would win as everyone they talked to said Kerry was their guy. The outcome in Ohio really leads us to believe that there was VAST voter fraud. My older son was conceived in Florida and so voted in November 2004 out of Florida's Monroe county , his Dad's last American residence. I voted out of NJ.
We are proud of Hackett. My fiancee was so furious at Schmidt that it was good he was up here visiting me when she called Murtha a coward.

My step daughter and her hubby were both in The US Army in Iraq in 2003 & 2004. They called and wrote us: "send water and food". They didn't have ammo or protection armour. They were sent out in two vehicle "convoys" in Baghdad and said the hostility then was very scary. The son in law was Stop Lossed in February 2003 to be in the invasion. He was back drafted back in the Army in December 2004.

The two of them say it's all bullshit what the Prez says and the Army is falling apart. I hope more Iraq vets run for Congress.

Yeah, I know, let me tell you something you don't already know.

But if you want to know the extent of it, I suggest getting a copy of the Conyers report, "What Went Wrong In Ohio." It's in paperback and is a very quick -- and disturbing -- read. What is even more outrageous is that Ken Blackwell and his ilk feel no obligation to answer the very serious questions that Conyers has raised.

And, given the small margin that Hackett lost to Schmidt...the same kind of stuff most likely happened in that election, too. But hopefully by next year the scales will begin to fall from many eyes and no amount of fraud will keep the Repubs from getting tossed out on their asses.

I remember when I first saw him I knew in my "gut" feeling that we'll be seeing more of him. :)
