1. How Many Lives Has This Guy Harmed?
Edited on Mon Nov-28-05 03:11 PM by stepnw1f
A serious question. Is he sorry for that, or is he sorry he is receiving punishment for his actions?

That was sad... sorry that came so late.

11. Oh, face the truth -
he's sorry he got caught.

Didn't see him coming forward to confess his sins without the long arm of the law tightly around his throat, did ya?

That's all he's sorry for. That's all these people can cough up - self-pity.

37. I'll have to agree with that...
What he did was wrong, but at least he's not wasting taxpayer money going through a big drawn-out trial, appeal, etc. etc. etc. Would Tom DeLay do the same? I don't think so.

9. "The Wounded Puppy" routine
They pull shit like big cheeses and then go crying into the microphone when caught. He looked more like Swaggert than a Congressman.

I've been watching the replay on C-Span and loved the question from a reporter - "Why'd ya do it, Congressman? Why'd ya do it?!!!"

If not it's only a matter of time. All these scumbags all of a sudden find Jesus in these situations and start talking about it ad nauseum.

"I have seen the error of my wicked ways and give my life to Jaysus!!! Halleluah!" :eyes:

Typical tear-duct masturbation, GOP-style. :puke:

A yacht? A Rolls-Royce? Contractor-sponsored all-expense vacations and graduation parties for his daughter?

I hope he goes to jail for TEN FUCKING YEARS.

12. He needs to cry. A Heroic Viet Nam vet who sold his soul.
I remember that when the heat started getting turned up on this guy last year, he introduced an anti flag-burning bill. Shameful, greedy, Repubs who care about only themselves and that "perceived" free $$$$$. (Not so free after, all, right, Duke?)

18. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
A real tragedy, that this Vietnam veteran who did his best to serve his country so long ago, has sold himself out to the highest bidder. I cannot help but feel sorry for him, his emotions are genuine, but he did it and so he owns it.

I am reminded of the DU member with the sig line, "High horses have slippery saddles."

Thank you, liveoaktx.

He's a fuck, but his family will also suffer from his disgrace.

At least he confessed. That's a fuck load more than the rest of the culture of corruption, and yes even CNN used that term, is doing.

30. They aren't facing jail time yet. Give it time.
I expect DeLay to go to jail, but Bush and Cheney...its doubtful. You know....gotta to respect the office and all that crap (like they did for Nixon).

Russ Feingold is the only candidate running for President that I even half way respect (voted against the war and against the Patriot act). If he promised to not pardon any of these guys, I would personally donate $1000 to his campaign.

33. I found watching it pretty painful.
Either the guy is a much better actor than the run of the mill GOP scumbag, or he has finally snapped out of his self-delusion to realize what a slimeball he's been. Sure, he brought this on himself; but you can still tell how humiliated he is, and I really can't take pleasure in that.

George W. crying during his resignation speech, that's just gonna be dance music. But this guy has basically set fire to what could otherwise have been a distinguished public career, and it's sad.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

25. He "misled" himself??? Did I hear that right???
At one point he lists the people he "misled" (family, friends, etc) then concludes by saying he "misled" himself.

I'll have to remember that:
IRS: Well, KansDem, you were not forthcoming in answering the questions we had regarding the inaccuracy of your 2005 return.
KansDem: Yes, after you caught me in a lie, I realized I had misled myself...
IRS: No problem. It's off to Leavenworth with you!

27. Yeah, I caught that, too
Thought it quite odd. Reminded me of Reagan's infamous statement, "A few months ago, I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that’s true. But the facts and the evidence tell me it is not."

34. Why did he wait all this time to resign/confess?
Seems like if he were really sincere about spending the rest of his life atoning for his sins, he would have come clean from the start, instead of screwing the tax payers even more by letting the investigation drag out this long.

Nice of him to use his apology to remind us all that he's a good Christian.

He couldn't have been a bigger hypocrite if he tried.
