Pelosi Statement on Resignation of Congressman Cunningham
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 28, 2005

Pelosi Statement on Resignation of Congressman Cunningham

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to announcement this afternoon by Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-CA) that he would resign from the House of Representatives after pleading guilty to conspiracy and tax charges:

“Mr. Cunningham accepted a bribe to perform an official act – an egregious action that strikes at the very heart of our democracy and dishonors the people he has been elected to represent; it is only proper that he resign.

“This offense is just the latest example of the culture of corruption that pervades the Republican-controlled Congress, which ignores the needs of the American people to serve wealthy special interests and their cronies. The Republican Congress has the wrong priorities; it is time to restore a high ethical standard to the Congress.”

14. that taxation increased, the cuts were false, the future tenuous,
the costs payed on America's credit card, the payments to be made by ourselves as older Americans, our children and children's children, foolishly promoted by those who unthinkingly dittoed buffoonery that once resembled strength.

7. Ride this horse hard through 2006.
Culture of corruption! Oh, what nuggets of joy will the unfolding of the Culture of Corruption bring in the months ahead? If it keeps going like this, even a fumble-mouth like me will be able to successfully campaign door-to-door for Democratic votes!

8. Can we look at his votes and have them changed now
Is it possible for Nancy to review all of his "bought" votes and have those recounted...like the Medicaid prescription bill that passed by one vote in the house?

12. They ALL Need A Jolt Of Humility!
Today's plea of guilty sure is a welcome blast of fresh air, especially from a district which SHOULD have a Dem as its Congressman!

13. NBC news just quoted Nancy's message.
:) I like how she made sure to repeat the "culture of corruption" line now that we're seeing more & more examples.

15. Didn't GORE predict this? Powerful special interests....
want to take control of the government. This is a choice of "People" vs. the "powerful". What a sad, sad shame that he got completely robbed of his chance to continue what CLinton had started.

NOthing makes me hesitate in a belief in GOd more than when such inequities and vile directions are allowed to stand. HOW LONG, Oh LORD, until you hear the cries of those killed at the altar?
