New to DU (sorta)

I was just getting ready to ask the "Are you gay..." poster what the point of the question was. But it's locked now (good!). What are the rules for stuff like that? And, what the hell WAS the point of that question anyhow?

How many blondes and how many red-heads????? How many cat lovers?

There is nothing about that thread that makes it a flame against one person or group, so it isn't against DU rules.

And there is nothing wrong with someone asking the question. The OP of that thread happens to be gay and wanted to know how many gay people are members of DU.

By the way, the thread isn't locked, it got moved.

Of course there's nothing wrong with asking the question; just wondered what the motivation was. Thought perhaps we were being infiltrated by enemy spies who might want that data for some nefarious reason.....
