Is Bob Beckel's new campaign to out Repugs Going to Backfire on Us?

Reading Buzzflash's interview with him I started to wonder what could he be thinking in try to out Repugs in the coming election year! I remember that I used to respect Beckel, he was Mondale's Campaign Manager, an exellent commentator for the Left on Crossfire and other "pudit shows" for years, and tried to help out Gore during the Florida fiasco by getting "Electors" to turn and vote for Gore after the count went in favor of Bush.

BUT.....I seemed to remember some scandal about him somewhere. So, doing a Google, here's the scandal. And, even though it comes from "World Net Daily," it seems to have been true.

Is this the kind of person we want working for us in the next year? Doesn't his own scandal negate any scandals he might bring to light about the RW Repugs? Can you imagine Faux or any other Cable Show listening to him when he has so much baggage of his own? Why would he do this? Ego?

Anyway here's the unfortunate news about him. Not a nice read.

By the new standards of the Right Wing, the more degenerate you are, the more credible you are, a'la, Rush, Bill Bennett, Arnold, Newt, Dick Morris...etc.

So by their own twisted logic, that episode should make Beckel the epitome of virtue.

Okay, but seriously, it's too bad Beckel got caught up in that. But at least he has the nerve not to hide after that.

but when you say "out" what do you mean? All I could see from the interview was that he's going to expose the right in things like tax payments, arrests etc.

him back with: "So, Bob, you're making a career out of exposing honest Repugs when you yourself were like Clinton. Only you paid for your blow jobs and Clinton got it for free!" That's what they would say to him. And the audience laughs and says: "Yeah, scum Dems trying to out Repugs, and they're just left wing scum themselves."

Do you see how the dialog then goes back to Beckel and he becomes the enemy....Not, what he is trying to expose?

We don't need this. It just reduces the dialogue more to the Coulter type stuff of accusations and finger pointing. I'm sorry Beckels going to do this. Someone needs to do it! But, he will just be trashed because of his own problems. :-(

If he acutally was in some sort of scandal, I forgive him.

The man is, after all, human.

He hired a prostitute. The scandal was the extortion that was done to him.

If every guy in Washington who did that was "outed" it'd be a pretty empty city, I'd imagine.

I think, if he's willing to continue and fight after that, it only means he will be tougher and more immune to smears.

After reading the Buzzflash interview, go get'um, Bob. The wingnuts have their DRUDGE, ROVE, and the rest of their attack machine institutionally enscounced, like, they're even BEYOND being questioned anymore. I used to wince in seeing some of our old attack dogs like Bob SHRUM yelling on the cool medium, overpowering with their volume, but ---------let's GO. As for BECHEL's past problem--------as Orrin HATCH always sez, "That's HISTORY. Let's look to the FUTURE. No fingerpointing." MORRIS, Bill BENNETT, and LIMBOsevic say that or will be soon, so what the hey.

The story is not the blow jobs. (Hello? See who's Governor-elect of California today?) It's not the prostitution.

It's the extortion - to which he responded appropriately and legally - that is the subject here and will be recognized as such by all except those in the fundie wingnut camp who are lost already (in more ways than one).

Like a pit bull Bob was chewing on the heels of those who threatened him and it was they who wound up in custody - not him.
